Description
Keiichiro Akasaka is a calm and sympathetic young man who serves as the manager and patissier of Café Mew Mew, the secret headquarters for the Mew Mew team. He is also the trusted partner of Ryou Shirogane in overseeing the Mew Project. His exact age varies across different versions of the story; official materials have listed him as twenty-one years old, while other adaptations, such as Mew Mew Power, describe him as seventeen. His birthday is November 12.

Having lost his parents at a young age, Keiichiro was taken in by the Shirogane family. He was placed in the household to receive special education for gifted children and eventually became an apprentice and invaluable assistant to Ryou’s father, a professor. Following the tragic deaths of Ryou’s parents in a laboratory explosion, Keiichiro, then sixteen, accompanied Ryou to Japan to continue their work on the Mew Project, which aims to protect the Earth by infusing girls with the DNA of endangered animals, known as Red Data Animals. To aid the team, Keiichiro also created the robotic companion R2000, often called Masha by Ichigo Momomiya.

In terms of personality, Keiichiro is a classic gentleman known for being polite, tactful, and charming. He treats the Mew Mew girls with warmth and respect, earning their affection and admiration. While he can be playful and has a mischievous, flirtatious side, he never acts with ill intention. His primary loyalty is to Ryou Shirogane, whose well-being he places above all else. Keiichiro often serves as a calm mediator, using his diplomatic skills to soften Ryou’s rougher edges and resolve conflicts between him and the young heroines.

Within the story, Keiichiro’s role is multifaceted. On the surface, he works as the talented pastry chef at Café Mew Mew, delighting customers with his exceptional sweets and desserts. Behind the scenes, he is deeply involved in the scientific and logistical aspects of the Mew Project. During battles, he remains in the lab, gathering data on alien attacks, searching for the mystical substance known as Mew Aqua, and relaying warnings to the girls. He is also highly knowledgeable in other areas, recognized as a leading figure in the study of unidentified mysterious animals. In addition to his culinary and scientific skills, Keiichiro is skilled at sewing, having crafted special costumes like Santa hats and reindeer outfits for the café staff.

Keiichiro shares a deep, trusting bond with Ryou, having grown up alongside him and promised to continue his father’s legacy. He worries when Ryou puts himself in danger but accepts his decisions, often making him promise to return safely, with the assurance that tea will be waiting for him. In the first anime series, Keiichiro is shown to have a romantic past. He had a girlfriend named Rei Nishina, a researcher studying butterflies. They broke up due to their busy lives, but he still makes a special cake for her birthday each year. In one episode, after Rei is attacked and her spirit is stolen by aliens, she is saved by the Mew Mews, and the two share a bittersweet farewell, showing Keiichiro’s ability to handle personal emotions with dignity. In the manga, he is not depicted as having any romantic interests.
