Description
Martin Zigmar is the commander of HOLY, the organization responsible for policing native Alter users on the Lost Ground. He is an American immigrant to Japan and is known as the first recorded Alter user, though for most of the series he refrains from using his power. His noble and principled nature drives his strong convictions, leading him to establish HOLY as a safe haven for Alter users who face discrimination from ordinary people. Zigmar serves as a supporting figure in the story, overseeing the operations of HOLY and its agents, and his leadership shapes the conflict between the mainland authorities and the Alter users of the Lost Ground. Late in the series, Zigmar finally activates his own Alter, which is called Alter Alias. This ability manifests as two components: a metal alloy that covers his upper chest and arms, and a separate sentient form named Alias. Alter Alias wields highly compressed air, capable of forming both a defensive shield and powerful shockwaves. However, because his Alter has been heavily refined over time, its use comes at a severe cost—it causes him to age rapidly, transforming him from a man in his early twenties to an elderly state in the span of a single battle. This development underscores his past restraint and the physical sacrifice he is willing to make for his cause. In terms of key relationships, Zigmar acts as a superior to agents like Ryuho and commands the broader HOLY force. His motivations center on protecting Alter users and maintaining order, but his methods sometimes put him at odds with the more aggressive or independent members of his organization. Throughout the series, his character remains steady in his ideals, and his eventual use of his Alter highlights the lengths he will go to when directly confronted.
