Description
Samidare Asahina is a 16-year-old girl chosen as the vessel and princess for Anima, a powerful entity opposing the mage Animus. Before gaining her powers, she was a sickly, hospital-bound child afflicted with a terminal disease, powerless and awaiting certain death. Anima's intervention saved her life and endowed her with immense physical strength and endurance, making her the strongest of the Beast Knights. Her appearance features shoulder-length brown hair typically tied in a small back ponytail, and she is notably short and slender for her age.
Outwardly, Samidare projects confidence, energy, and dominance, characterized by overwhelmingly strong willpower that rarely allows others' suffering to affect her. Beneath this exterior lies a fragile, selfish core driven by a profound love for humanity and the planet. This duality stems from her realization that her shortened life expectancy prevents her from truly "owning" the Earth, leading to her conviction that destroying it is the only path to possession. She secretly intends to betray the Beast Knights by using their victory over Animus as an opportunity to carry out global destruction, a goal she confides only to Yuuhi Amamiya, whom she manipulates into becoming her "Demon Knight."
Her primary abilities center on supernatural physical prowess: titanic strength, invulnerable knuckles, and exceptional stamina. As the series progresses, she develops psychic powers absorbed directly from Anima, culminating in the capacity to reform the Blues Drive Monster into her likeness and execute the "Ultra Samidare Punch." Her combat style typically involves bare-fisted engagements, and she demonstrates auxiliary skills like walking on water.
Relationships are pivotal to her development. She experiences love at first sight with Yuuhi, forming a battle couple dynamic and a pact centered on mutual world destruction. This relationship, alongside bonds forged with other Beast Knights during fights against Animus' golems, gradually challenges her nihilism. Initially viewing the knights as tools, she eventually recognizes them as True Companions, though she fears abandonment as they grow closer.
Samidare's character arc undergoes significant transformation. Her resolve to destroy the world wanes as her emotional connections deepen, fueled by Yuuhi's unwavering loyalty and the knights' collective support. After Animus is defeated and Anima departs, Samidare loses her powers and reverts to her terminal illness. She survives due to a successful surgery, enduring eight years of illness and two years of recovery before achieving full health. This redemption, facilitated by love and camaraderie, leads her to abandon her destructive ambitions and accept her place among those who value her existence.
