Description
Nanvel Candlestick is the team engineer for the special anti-terrorist unit Team Warrior in the Neo-Tokyo police force during the events of Burn Up Excess. She is an American in her early twenties, born on October 8, with an energetic and obsessive enthusiasm for invention. Her primary motivation is the constant pursuit of new and more explosive devices, an inclination that aligns perfectly with the gun-loving sniper Maya Jingu. Nanvel possesses a remarkable mechanical aptitude: if left alone with any machine, she can quickly figure out how it works and can fabricate nearly any piece of equipment on demand, from compact surveillance gear to heavy combat hardware. She almost never knows when to stop improving her creations, and her personal signature is a pink-and-purple color scheme applied to both her clothing and her inventions. However, her devices are not always fully reliable, as she occasionally overlooks bugs or fails to complete safety checks before field use. Within the team, her role is to devise, build, and maintain the special combat and surveillance hardware that backs up the field operatives Rio, Maya, and Lilica. She has a close working relationship with Maya, whose love of firearms makes her a natural test pilot for Nanvel’s more explosive prototypes, and with Lilica, whose computer expertise complements Nanvel’s hardware skills. Nanvel interacts regularly with the pilot Yuji and commander Maki, and she often supplies the technological edge required for the team’s missions. Her inventiveness has earned her recognition, such as winning the Inventor of the Year award, though this also puts her at risk; in one incident she and Rio were kidnapped by a gang that wanted to force her to build an invisibility machine. While the narrative does not depict a dramatic personal arc, Nanvel remains a consistent source of technical support and chaotic creativity throughout the series, and her energetic, slightly reckless approach to engineering is a key part of Team Warrior’s dynamic.
