Description
Mika Seidou is the main protagonist of the anime Geneshaft. She is a sixteen-year-old girl who stands about one hundred sixty-two centimeters tall, with brown hair and brown eyes. She holds the rank of second lieutenant and serves as the leading pilot of the Shaft mecha. Her most defining trait is her genetic classification: she possesses a white genetype, meaning she was born without any genetic modifications in a society that values engineered DNA above all else. Because of this, she is frequently looked down upon and treated as inferior by those with higher gene ratings, particularly by her rival Mir Lotus.

Mika’s personality is marked by a bright, passionate, and aggressive nature that sets her apart from the more emotionally restrained people around her. She is extremely loyal to those she cares about and acts on her feelings rather than cold logic. Her motivations are deeply personal: she is driven by a desire to prove her worth despite her genetic status, to uncover the truth behind the alien rings threatening Earth, and to resolve the painful history she shares with Captain Hiroto Amagiwa. A past training accident claimed the life of a close friend, an event Mika initially blames on Hiroto. The truth is that the friend sacrificed herself to save Hiroto, but Mika’s misunderstanding leads to a hostile, cold relationship between them at the start of the story. Over time, she learns the full truth, forgives him, and develops romantic feelings for him.

Mika’s background includes a strong bond with the woman who genetically engineered her, whom she considered her mother, and with her genetically enhanced dog Bismarck, who can communicate with her via computer from Earth while she is in space. These connections give her a sense of family and loyalty that is rare in her society. In the story, Mika evolves from a resentful, emotionally driven girl into someone who can reconcile her anger and accept the complexities of her world. Her abilities as a Shaft pilot are notable: despite her unmodified genes, she becomes the leading pilot, demonstrating natural talent and fierce determination in battle. Her role is central to the mission of the spaceship Bilkis as the crew investigates the alien rings and confronts the implications of their genetically engineered society.
