TV-Series
Description
Pigu is a small blue dinosaur-like fairy who serves as one of the two magical companions in the anime Fancy Lala. He is male and forms a matched pair with Mogu, a pink dinosaur-like fairy who is female. In the 1998 television series, Pigu and Mogu are fairies from another world known as the Memory of Time. After becoming lost in the human world, they are taken into the home of the young girl Miho Shinohara, who shelters them, and in return they give her a magic pen and sketchbook. These items allow Miho to bring drawings to life and to transform herself into the older idol persona Fancy Lala. Pigu is first encountered in the form of a stuffed dinosaur given to Miho by an unnamed stranger, and he later comes alive alongside Mogu.

As a character, Pigu is ageless and is presented as an animal-like companion rather than a human figure, with blue coloring that distinguishes him from the pink Mogu. His motivation is closely tied to his origins: having wandered into the human world and been kindly received by Miho, he and Mogu repay her kindness and remain near her throughout her adventures. He serves mainly as a supporting character who makes Miho's magic possible and accompanies her as she balances her ordinary school life with her secret career as Fancy Lala. His relationship with Miho is that of a benefactor and companion, and his relationship with Mogu is that of a paired fairy duo, with Pigu as the male counterpart to Mogu's female role.

In the earlier 1988 original video animation Harbor Light Story Fashion Lala Yori, Pigu and Mogu also appear, there taking pity on Miho and using their magic to transform her into the older Fashion Lala so she can take part in a dance contest. This earlier version shares the basic idea of the two fairies granting Miho a temporary adult form. In the later series, Pigu's role is consistent rather than central: he remains a constant fairy companion whose defining function is to provide the magical means for Miho's transformation. His notable abilities include coming to life from a stuffed toy form and being tied to the magic pen and sketchbook that enable Miho to transform and to materialize objects she draws.
