Liu Kowloon is a character from the Virtua Fighter anime series. He was once a poor child living on the streets before being found and taken in by the martial arts master Lau Chan. Under Lau's guidance, he became a disciple and eventually rose to become the leader of the Koenkan dojo in Hong Kong. Lau also arranged for him to be betrothed to his daughter, Pai Chan. However, behind Lau's back, Liu Kowloon secretly turned the Koenkan into a criminal organization, abusing his position for power and influence. He is driven by a hunger for authority and control, seeking to eliminate Lau and force Pai into marriage so that he can take full command of the Koenkan worldwide. Despite his ambition, he is not especially clever or cunning; the scientist Eva Durix easily outmaneuvers him, and he naively believes she is working solely for him when in fact she uses him for her own ends. In the story, Liu Kowloon serves as an antagonist, pursuing Pai and opposing the main characters as they try to stop Eva's plans. He is a strong martial artist in his own right, trained in the same style as Lau, and does not tolerate failure or betrayal from his underlings. His development is limited, remaining consistently power-hungry and manipulative throughout the series. His key relationships include Lau, whom he betrayed; Pai, whom he seeks to possess; and Eva, with whom he forms a reluctant but ultimately mistrustful alliance.
