Taiten Kusunoki
Description
Taiten Kusunoki is a Japanese actor and voice actor born in Tokyo on March 18, 1967. His real name is Daisuke Fukuda. He is currently affiliated with the talent agency Amuleto.
Kusunoki began his career after being scouted, initially working in television dramas and stage plays. He made his voice acting debut with a role in the Lupin III franchise, specifically in the 1995 film Lupin III: The Pursuit of Harimao's Treasure. His entry into voice acting was driven by a personal request to appear alongside Kanichi Kurita, who had just taken over the role of Lupin III at their shared agency at the time.
Throughout his extensive career, Kusunoki has become known for voicing a wide range of characters, from authoritative and cool-headed individuals to冷酷无情 villains. He is also frequently cast in roles requiring the portrayal of Black characters. One of his early and enduring major roles is Genichirō Sanada in The Prince of Tennis series, a part he secured after several auditions for other characters in the franchise. Other significant anime roles provided by the user include Leonard Burns in Fire Force, Thorgil in Vinland Saga, Mō Bu in Kingdom, Drakken Joe in Edens Zero, Antonio Lopez, also known as Rock Bison, in Tiger & Bunny 2, and Ibuki in BEASTARS. His filmography also includes roles in Tokyo 24th Ward as Gōri Suidō, 86 as Reff Adleheit, Pazudora as Toki, One Piece Stampede as Urouge, Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma: The Fourth Plate as Tosuke Megishima, and Tekken: Bloodline as Heihachi Mishima.
In addition to anime, Kusunoki is highly prolific in video games and foreign film dubbing. He is the official Japanese voice actor for Hollywood stars Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel. He also took over the role of Darth Vader in the Star Wars franchise following the retirement of Toru Ohira. Notable video game roles include Rude in the Final Fantasy VII remake series, Nagoriyuki in Guilty Gear Strive, and E-123 Omega in the Sonic the Hedgehog series.
Kusunoki has a long-standing connection with the Transformers franchise. After narrowly missing out on the lead role in one series, he was later cast as the lead, Galaxy Convoy, in Transformers: Cybertron. He has voiced Optimus Prime in four different Transformers anime series.
In 2022, Kusunoki received the Foreign Film/Drama Award at the 16th Seiyu Awards, recognizing his exceptional work dubbing foreign films and television dramas for Japanese audiences.
