Description
Professor Sabaaku leads the Desert Apostles, an organization bent on destroying the Tree of Hearts to turn the world into a desert. He always wears a dark teal and grey mask hiding his identity and is typically accompanied by his trusted subordinate, Dark Pretty Cure. His attire includes a long black coat, boots, and long grey hair visible beneath the mask.
His true identity is Professor Tsukikage Hideaki, the long-lost father of Cure Moonlight (Yuri Tsukikage). While researching the Tree of Hearts in France, agents of the cosmic entity Dune gave him a mask that brainwashed him into their service, suppressing his true self and binding him to Dune. Renaming himself Sabaaku (from the Japanese word for "desert"), he took command of the Desert Apostles and directed attacks to wither the Tree of Hearts. During this time, he created Dark Pretty Cure using a fragment of Yuri's bone, viewing her as a non-biological daughter and replacement for Yuri.
Sabaaku displays detachment toward his subordinates—Sasorina, Kumojacky, and Cobraja—primarily treating them as tools. He shows impatience with their repeated failures against the new Pretty Cure, eventually deploying Dark Pretty Cure directly. He demonstrates a level of care for her absent elsewhere, personally intervening to rescue her from defeat.
A confrontation at the Desert Apostles' base sees Cure Blossom dislodge his mask, revealing Professor Tsukikage. Instantly, he sacrifices himself to shield Dark Pretty Cure from Cure Moonlight's attack, declaring he created her from Yuri's essence. As Dark Pretty Cure dies in his arms, he acknowledges her as Yuri's sister.
Dune arrives, exposing Sabaaku's brainwashing and past manipulation. Enraged by Dune's actions against her father, Yuri attacks Dune, prompting Sabaaku to join her and Cure Blossom in battle. When Dune unleashes a devastating energy attack, Sabaaku intercepts the blast to protect Yuri and Cure Blossom. He bids farewell to Yuri, urging her to care for her mother, and is obliterated by the explosion, leaving only tattered clothing remnants.
Yuri later buries these remains at their former family home in Yamanashi. His unmasking and sacrifice reveal his deep paternal love for Yuri, which overrides his brainwashed allegiance. Creating Dark Pretty Cure underscores his desire to preserve a connection to his daughter, even while serving as her enemy.
