Thorgil, eldest son of Ketil and older brother of Olmar, was born circa 991 AD. Raised on Ketil's farm believing his father was the legendary "Iron Fist Ketil," this belief steered him towards violence and combat. Extensive battlefield experience starting in his late teens carved numerous scars across his body, including a prominent diagonal scar across his lips. He stands 5'9" (176 cm), weighs 165 lbs (75 kg), with long dirty blonde hair, a beard, and no eyebrows, typically seen in a maroon and yellow shirt and carrying a sword.
He exhibits an intensely aggressive and ruthless personality, deriving joy from combat and displaying no remorse for killing. Thorgil believes strength is proven through violence and merciless punishment, advocating amputation for child thieves caught stealing bread or insisting on severe beatings despite alternatives. He personally delivered a near-fatal beating to the boy Sture, who volunteered to take his sister's punishment, later expressing admiration for Sture's resolve while ignoring his own brutality. Thorgil despises perceived weakness or cowardice, evident in his contempt for Olmar's reluctance to fight and eventual surrender to King Canute. His worldview centers on battlefield honor, where death is preferable to surrender or peace.
Trained in combat by Snake, Thorgil became a highly skilled warrior. Before returning to the farm, he fought under King Canute, gifting Olmar severed ears as a souvenir. Upon his return, he encouraged Olmar to enlist, claiming battlefields "toughen people up." During a trip to Denmark's capital, Thorgil manipulated Olmar into dueling soldiers by covertly aiding him—throwing a coin to distract Olmar's opponent—then massacred witnesses and royal guards when Olmar was accused of illegal dueling. This incident, orchestrated by Canute to seize Ketil's farm, escalated tensions and forced Thorgil's family to flee.
When Canute invaded the farm, Thorgil devised a plan to ambush the king by swimming behind enemy lines with Olmar. After Olmar abandoned the attempt, Thorgil proceeded alone, killing two bodyguards and wounding Canute before being intercepted by Wulf. He escaped by gouging out Wulf's eye but retreated due to injuries. With Ketil incapacitated, Thorgil urged continued resistance, but Olmar's decision to surrender—supported by Snake—provoked his fury. Declaring them cowards, Thorgil left the farm permanently, becoming a wanderer. His actions directly triggered the farm's invasion, and he never learned the truth about his father's fabricated warrior past.
