Description
Badigadi is a prominent character from the second season of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation II, known as a legendary demon lord. He is a member of the Immortal Demon Clan and is formally recognized as the Demon King who rules over the Viegoya region on the Demon Continent, carrying the title of the Immortal Demon King. He is also the long-standing fiancé of the Great Demon Emperor, Kishirika Kishirisu.

In terms of physical appearance, Badigadi is an imposing figure, described as a giant with a muscular physique. He has jet-black skin that resembles obsidian and long violet hair. His most distinctive feature is the three pairs of powerful arms that extend from his torso, giving him a total of six arms, although he possesses the ability to retract some of them at will. His body also has the unique property of regenerating at a smaller size if rebuilt from a small remnant fragment.

Badigadi’s personality is vibrant and gregarious. He is portrayed as perpetually cheerful, loud, and boisterous, with a great love for drinking, feasting, and general merriment. Compared to other members of his immortal clan who are often simple-minded, he is considered the Demon King of Wisdom because he can hold a reasonable conversation. However, he ironically refers to himself as the Demon King of Fools, claiming to be only slightly less stupid than the rest. He is largely whimsical and lives life as it comes, preferring wandering and seeking strong opponents over the burdens of actually ruling his territory, though he can become serious when it concerns his loved ones. His perception of time is vastly different from that of humans, often regarding decades as a short while.

The background of Badigadi stretches back over four thousand years to the era before the Laplace War, making him one of the oldest living beings in the setting. During the Second Great Human-Demon War, he acted as a military strategist for the demons. Frustrated by the war's stagnation, he heeded advice from Hitogami, the Man-God, who spoke to him in dreams, unknowingly becoming an Apostle. Following Hitogami's guidance to protect Kishirika, he stole the Fighting God Armor. Wearing this armor caused him to lose his reason, leading to a devastating battle with the Demon Dragon King Laplace that resulted in a stalemate. Tragically, while out of control, he killed Kishirika with his own hands, a traumatic event that fundamentally changed him and made him aware he had been manipulated.

In the story of the second season, Badigadi travels to the Ranoa University of Magic to challenge Rudeus Greyrat. He is motivated by jealousy after hearing Kishirika speak highly of the young mage. Initially treating the situation lightly, his demeanor shifts dramatically when Rudeus mentions having fought the Dragon God Orsted and surviving. Badigadi proposes a duel where Rudeus must hit him with his strongest magic; if he can injure the immortal demon, he wins. Rudeus unleashes a powerful stone bullet that obliterates Badigadi’s upper body, scattering his limbs. The demon lord regenerates instantly, laughing with excitement and declaring Rudeus the winner before playfully knocking him unconscious with a punch. Following this event, he enrolls as a special student at the academy before mysteriously leaving.

Key relationships define much of his character arc. His love for Kishirika is his primary motivation, having remained devoted to her for millennia despite the tragedy he caused. His relationship with Rudeus begins with a challenge born of jealousy but evolves into a complex dynamic. He holds a deep-seated grudge against Ruijerd Superdia due to the historical actions of the Superd tribe during the ancient war. His connection to Hitogami is deeply antagonistic, as the Man-God manipulated him into committing his greatest sin, making Badigadi a contradictory figure who both acts as an apostle and warns others not to trust the deity.

Regarding his development, the greatest shift in Badigadi’s character occurred after he was tricked into killing Kishirika. This event shattered his self-perception as a strategist, leading him to abandon pretensions of cunning and fully embrace his identity as a straightforward and carefree wanderer. In later volumes, he reappears wearing the Fighting God Armor again, declaring himself an apostle of Hitogami, leading to a final confrontation where he is ultimately defeated and sealed away until the Man-God is destroyed.

Badigadi possesses several notable abilities that make him a formidable force. He is functionally immortal, able to regenerate almost instantly from devastating injuries, even reforming his body after it has been blown to pieces. His black skin provides immense defense, requiring the offensive power of a King-ranked swordsman to even scratch. He once consumed a special elixir that makes him immune to Demon Eyes; such abilities cannot see or predict him, and his presence is not reflected in their visions. He prefers a brutal, instinctive fighting style that leverages his immortality and six arms for relentless physical assault rather than refined techniques. When he dons the Fighting God Armor, a golden set of armor created by Laplace, his power skyrockets, granting him a place as the third-ranked of the Seven Great World Powers. The armor is incredibly durable, self-repairing, can nullify magic, and possesses a library of a thousand secret techniques that it can deploy automatically, making Badigadi nearly unstoppable when combined with his regenerative body.
