Description
Hilda, known throughout the frontier by the epithet Hot Ice, is a pivotal figure whose actions set the events of her story in motion. The name reflects her dual nature: hot for her striking beauty and fierce spirit, and ice for her calm, calculating demeanor under pressure. She is an outlaw, a rogue operator who lives outside the laws of both the Space Forces and the criminal pirate guilds, surviving on her own wits and skills. Prior to the main narrative, Hilda engaged in a bitter feud with the powerful Kei Pirate Guild. The conflict escalated dramatically when she succeeded in killing one of the guild's leaders, a victory that came at a tremendous personal cost: she lost her left arm and right eye, replacing them with cybernetic prosthetics. Far from ending her fight, this loss fueled her desire for revenge. In a massive act of retaliation, she executed a daring heist, stealing the Kei Pirates most prized possessions: the advanced prototype starship known as the XGP15A-II and a specialized bio-android named Melfina, who was designed to be the ship's navigator.

Hilda is characterized by a cool, professional, and frequently cynical outlook. She is a woman of few words who does not tolerate foolishness or rudeness, and she approaches combat and difficult tasks with grim efficiency, treating them as jobs to be completed rather than sources of excitement. Her primary motivation is a complex blend of pure survival, a deep-seated desire for revenge against the Kei Pirates who harmed her, and a more ambitious goal: to reach the legendary Galactic Leyline. She views this mysterious treasure as something powerful that the pirates desperately want, making it her mission to claim it before they can. Despite her tough and often ruthless exterior, moments of vulnerability reveal a deep-seated loneliness, acknowledging that an outlaw's path is a solitary one.

Hilda’s primary role in the story is that of a catalyst. She is the instigator who hires the young duo Gene Starwind and Jim Hawking as bodyguards on the planet Sentinel III, operating under the alias Rachel Sweet to hide from her pursuers. After revealing her true identity, she pulls them into her dangerous conflict, forcing them to flee with her, Melfina, and the stolen XGP. Her relationship with Gene is particularly complex and serves as a turning point for his character. Initially, she tests him, even shooting him to gauge his resourcefulness, but she quickly becomes a mentor figure who pushes him to stop running from his past and confront the larger universe. Their bond deepens, culminating in a brief, intimate encounter where they share a rare moment of honest connection, exposing the loneliness beneath their hardened facades. Hilda's sacrifice is her defining act: when the Kei Pirates and their rivals, the MacDougall brothers, corner them near a sun, her ship is destroyed. Refusing to let the enemy stop Gene and Melfina from escaping with the XGP, she climbs a grappling cable toward the pirates. When the cable snaps, her final act is to detonate a bomb hidden in her tooth, destroying the pursuing Tao master and ensuring her companions safety. Her last words, Outlaws never go down easy, no matter what happens to them, encapsulate her rebellious spirit and serve as a legacy for Gene, who renames the XGP the Outlaw Star in her honor.

Hilda possesses a range of notable abilities that make her a formidable outlaw. Despite her cybernetic eye, she is an exceptionally talented markswoman, capable of firing with distinct accuracy. She primarily uses a specialized blaster that fires caster shells, mystical bullets that can unleash powerful magical effects. Her cybernetic arm, while sometimes in need of repair, grants her enhanced strength and durability. Her fighting style is a blend of strategic intelligence and acrobatic combat, as she is also trained in hand-to-hand techniques to defend herself while reloading her single-shot weapon. Beyond her physical prowess, Hilda is a skilled con artist and thief, quick-thinking under pressure and able to improvise escape plans from seemingly inescapable situations. The cybernetic enhancements she acquired are a testament to her past battles and her relentless, resourceful nature.
