Description
Nobuyuki Masaki is the father of Tenchi Masaki, the protagonist of the Tenchi Muyo! franchise. In the film Tenchi the Movie: Tenchi Muyo in Love, he appears primarily in flashback sequences set in the year 1970, when he was a high school student. At that time, he is portrayed as a shy and earnest young man with a talent for drawing houses, which later leads him to a career as an architect. He also enjoys using a video camera to record moments with his classmates, particularly with Achika, who would become his wife and Tenchi's mother. Nobuyuki and Achika are both too reserved to openly express their feelings for each other, creating a gentle, unspoken bond between them.

In the present-day timeline of the film, Nobuyuki is a widower who works in the city as an architect. He cares deeply for his son Tenchi and has worked hard to raise him after losing his wife. Although he sometimes shows less responsibility than Tenchi, his affection for his family is genuine. His role in the story is largely tied to his past with Achika: the villain Kain travels back in time to kill Achika, and Tenchi and his friends travel to 1970 to prevent that. Nobuyuki becomes caught in the conflict when Kain kidnaps both him and Achika into a pocket of subspace. There, after Kain knocks Nobuyuki unconscious, Achika's latent Juraian powers are awakened, allowing her to help Tenchi defeat Kain. Following the rescue, both Nobuyuki's and Achika's memories of the events are erased so as not to alter the timeline.

Nobuyuki's key relationships are with Tenchi and Achika. His bond with Tenchi is that of a loving, if sometimes absent, father who provides financial support and tries to guide his son, even if his own behavior can be immature. His relationship with Achika in the past is defined by mutual shyness and genuine affection, which forms the emotional core of the film. In terms of development, the movie contrasts his young, earnest self with the more laid-back and occasionally pervy personality he displays in other Tenchi continuities, though the film itself does not dwell on that later side. He has no notable combat abilities or supernatural powers; he is an ordinary human whose significance comes from being Tenchi's father and the husband of Achika. His role in the story is primarily as a catalyst for the time-travel plot and as an emotional anchor for Tenchi's connection to his mother.
