Description
Kyoji Miura is a Japanese high school student and a dedicated practitioner of kendo, whose ordinary life is upended when he discovers that his revered instructor, Tate Masanari, is the reincarnation of an ancient Incan warrior named Yawaru. Yawaru’s goal is to unleash the destructive power of Iriyatesse, purging the world in a cataclysm that would kill millions. Kyoji learns that he himself is the reincarnation of Bilka, the warrior who stood against Yawaru in their past existence and thwarted his plans. This revelation forces Kyoji into a conflict that straddles the boundaries of time, rekindling a centuries-old struggle in the present day.

As a modern teenager, Kyoji is thoughtful, disciplined, and deeply rooted in the codes and traditions of kendo, which shape his approach to both combat and life. He respects order and values loyalty, yet beneath that measured exterior lies an assertive and fiercely independent core. He does not shy away from confrontation when the stakes demand it, and he possesses a strong drive to seize control of his own fate. At the same time, he harbors a genuine aversion to needless violence and is wary of being consumed by the ancient intensity of his past self. This internal tension between his present identity and the memories of Bilka creates a central struggle for him, as he questions whether he is merely a vessel for a reincarnated soul or an individual capable of making his own choices.

Kyoji’s primary motivation throughout the story is to protect the world he knows and the people he cares about. He is especially protective of Yuka Kiritake, Tate’s former fiancée, and he fights alongside his best friend Dan Takuma and fellow allies to stop Yawaru’s apocalyptic scheme. His relationship with Tate Masanari is deeply complex: the man he long admired as a mentor becomes his fated adversary, and Kyoji must reconcile his lingering respect and affection for Tate with the necessity of opposing him. This conflict drives much of Kyoji’s emotional arc, as he seeks a way to save the world without simply destroying the person he once looked up to, hoping in part to break the cycle of violent reincarnation.

Over the course of the series, Kyoji evolves from a student caught in an overwhelming destiny into a determined warrior who actively shapes his path. He gathers his companions and travels to the ancient site of Asuka to prevent the release of Iriyatesse, facing not only supernatural opponents recruited by Yawaru but also the persistent pull of his own past-life memories. Through these trials, he steadily asserts his individuality, insisting that he is Miura Kyoji rather than solely Bilka, and that his future is his own to decide.

In terms of ability, Kyoji is an accomplished kendo swordsman, a skill that serves him in both modern sparring and supernatural confrontations. When the need arises, he channels spiritual energy tied to his incarnated soul, performing feats of enhanced strength, speed, and resilience that transcend ordinary human limits. This connection to Bilka also grants him instinctive combat insight and the resolve of a warrior who once stood against impossible odds, allowing him to fight on even terms with awakened Incan spirits. Ultimately, his greatest asset is not raw power but his refusal to surrender his identity, using his modern sensibilities to find a resolution that no previous incarnation could.
