Description
Aura Sentia, known as Mieru Houchun in the original Japanese version, is a character from the anime Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V. She is a young student at the Fortune Prep School who possesses genuine abilities as a fortune teller, having used her predictions since childhood to guide her decisions, find her way when lost, and even forecast the weather. Her belief in destiny is absolute, shaping her view that future events are predetermined and unavoidable. This conviction is put to the test when her fortune telling predicts she will meet her fated person, leading her to anticipate a handsome and impressive individual. The reality turns out to be the protagonist Yuya Sakaki, whose clumsy entrance leaves her disappointed and leads to a comedic confrontation where she smashes her signature crystal apple on his head.
Despite her initial frustration, Aura's role in the story deepens following her duel with Yuya. She employs a strategy focused on Flip and Ritual Summoning using her Prediction Princess deck, which allows her to control the field by preventing opponent attacks and destroying monsters. Her ability to read the future is not just a gimmick; she uses her deck like tarot cards to foresee outcomes, accurately reading Yuya's moves and predicting misfortune if he continued their duel. However, when Yuya defies her predictions and defeats her with his Rune-Eyes Pendulum Dragon, he inadvertently wins her heart. Her personality shifts dramatically from a composed fortune teller to an openly infatuated girl, referring to herself in the third person as a mannerism of cuteness and suffering nosebleeds at the thought of handsome men, now including Yuya.
Her motivation becomes largely tied to Yuya, whom she affectionately calls her darling. She forfeits her match in the Arc League Championship upon hearing he is unconscious and rushes to his home to care for him with various occult remedies. She develops a rivalry with Zuzu Boyle, who becomes annoyed by Aura's romantic advances toward Yuya and her intrusive questions about meeting his parents. Aura demonstrates notable abilities beyond dueling, including the power to locate individuals, as she accurately finds Yuya using her crystal apple. She also shows a deeper mystical sensitivity when she peers into Yuya's heart and discovers two separate souls within him, along with a consuming darkness, revealing a hidden layer to his condition that others could not see.
Throughout the Arc League Championship and the following Friendship Cup, Aura serves as a supportive figure and a spectator to the larger conflicts. She is present for many of Yuya's crucial duels, cheering for him and expressing sadness at his losses. Her straightforward and sometimes childish demeanor leads to comedic moments, such as mistaking another character for Zuzu and accusing her of infidelity, only to slip and knock herself unconscious on a block of ice. By the final arc of the series, following the defeat of the main antagonist, the dimensions are reborn, and Aura loses her memories of the inter-dimensional events and her connection to Zuzu. She returns to a more ordinary existence, still present in the background as a spectator watching Yuya's final duels. Her journey in the anime transforms her from a detached believer in fate who reads the future into an active participant whose emotions and actions are driven by her unexpected and unreciprocated love, challenging her own philosophy by embracing a future she never predicted for herself.
