Description
Alexis Rhodes, known in the Japanese version as Asuka Tenjoin, appears in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V anime as an alternate universe version of the character from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX. She is introduced as a former student of Duel Academy in the Fusion Dimension, an institution she ultimately fled due to its brutal methods of invading other dimensions and sealing people into cards. After escaping, she was rescued by the renowned dueltainer Yusho Sakaki, with whom she later co-founded the You Show Duel School. This school serves as a sanctuary for other defectors and runaways from Duel Academy, offering them a place of safety and a new philosophy of dueling.

In terms of personality, Alexis is kind, polite, and deeply dedicated to the causes she believes in. Her experiences at Duel Academy and the loss of a friend who was carded while trying to protect her instilled in her a strong sense of justice and a resolve to oppose the Academy’s oppression. She fully embraces the ideology of Yusho Sakaki, believing that the purpose of dueling is to bring smiles to people's faces rather than to conquer or cause suffering. While she is compassionate and selflessly assists escapees, she is also formidable and unyielding when confronting the forces of Duel Academy, having gained a reputation for defeating their duelists. Her motivations are clear and consistent: to protect the innocent, to free those still under the control or influence of Duel Academy, and to spread the joyful dueling philosophy she has adopted.

Within the story of Arc-V, Alexis plays a significant role during the Fusion Dimension arc. She first appears in Heartland City, where she rescues Zuzu Boyle from Juvenile Officers of Duel Academy, showcasing both her acrobatic skills and her dueling prowess. After bringing Zuzu to the You Show Duel School, Alexis facilitates a reunion between Zuzu and Yusho Sakaki. She explains her past to Zuzu, including her defection from Duel Academy and her dream of one day liberating its students. As the conflict escalates, Alexis becomes a key member of the resistance, helping to protect others from the threat of the Fusion Duelist Yuri and the Academy’s invasion forces. Her resolve is severely tested in a direct confrontation with Yuri, where she attempts to use his own tactics and ideals against him, only to be ultimately defeated and sealed into a card. Later, after the final battle, she is freed and is seen supporting Leo Akaba in his efforts to revive his daughter, though she also tries to maintain order as other duelists arrive seeking answers.

Alexis shares key relationships that define her journey. Her bond with Yusho Sakaki is foundational, as he not only saved her life but also provided her with a new purpose and moral direction. She is fiercely protective of Zuzu Boyle, seeing her as someone to be shielded from Duel Academy’s clutches. Her relationship with Duel Academy is, of course, adversarial, though her duel with Yuri reveals a complex layer where she initially tries to reach a common understanding with her enemy, only to be horrified by his genuine malice and desire for power. Over the course of her appearance, Alexis demonstrates a clear development from a disillusioned student and victim of the Academy's cruelty into an active, courageous leader of a resistance movement. She grows from someone who once had faith in the Professor to a woman willing to sacrifice herself to protect others and fight for a better future in dueling.

Alexis is a highly capable duelist with notable physical agility, able to perform acrobatic feats such as leaping great heights to intercept her opponents. In contrast to her GX counterpart, this version of Alexis rejects the Fusion Summoning techniques of Duel Academy due to her profound enmity with the institution. Instead, she specializes in Ritual Summoning, focusing on her Cyber Angel archetype of monsters. Her deck includes powerful monsters like Cyber Angel Vrash, which has the ability to destroy an opponent's Fusion Monsters and inflict damage, and Cyber Angel Natasha, which can restore her life points and even take control of an opponent's monster. Her strategy often involves using anti-Fusion support cards like Fusion Destruction to directly counter the Academy's preferred methods, demonstrating that her dueling style is a direct reflection of her ideological opposition to them.
