Description
Dipper Orion, known as Hokuto Shijima in the original Japanese version, is a character from the anime Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V. He is a student at the prestigious Leo Institute of Dueling, where he serves as the elite representative for the Xyz Summoning course. Within his class, he is considered an exceptional duelist, possessing a high win rate of ninety percent.

In terms of appearance, Dipper is slim and tall, with distinctive purple hair styled upwards and blue eyes. He has a gold pin in the shape of the Big Dipper asterism in his hair and a small star-shaped mark on his forehead. His attire consists of a blue zip-up jacket with a purple collar, worn over a white long-sleeved shirt, paired with white pants and olive-colored shoes. The Leo Institute's badge is pinned on the right side of his jacket.

Dipper’s personality is initially defined by a callous and arrogant demeanor, particularly during Action Duels. He demonstrates a cruel streak, showing little concern for his opponent's physical safety and timing his moves to deliberately put them in harm's way. For example, during his duel against Yuya Sakaki, he used a card effect that returned a monster to Yuya's hand, causing Yuya to nearly fall off a rooftop. He possesses a superiority complex, believing firmly in the power of his own Xyz Summoning methods, and even receiving a small amount of damage is enough to send him into a rage. Despite his outward confidence, his pride is fragile; after his defeat by Yuya, a simple reminder of his loss was sufficient to send him sulking into a corner. He was also deeply angered by Shay Obsidian using Xyz Monsters to attack the Leo Institute, which he saw as an affront to the summoning method he championed.

As the story progresses, Dipper undergoes a degree of development. Following his duel with Yuya, he shows noticeably less arrogance and refrains from boasting to the extent he did before. He also displays a supportive side by complimenting the decks of his fellow representatives, a rarity that even surprises his peers.

Dipper’s primary motivation early on is to defend the honor and supremacy of the Leo Institute of Dueling and its Xyz Summoning curriculum. He is sent to duel members of the You Show Duel School as retaliation for a supposed attack by one of its students and is driven to prove that his school's Xyz techniques are the strongest. His role in the story is that of an early rival to the protagonist, Yuya Sakaki, serving as the first major Xyz summoner that Yuya must overcome. He also plays a supporting role alongside his fellow course representatives, Julia Crystal and Kit Blade. Together, they investigate attacks on their school and later engage in a three-on-one duel against Shay Obsidian.

Key relationships include those with his fellow Xyz course students. He works closely with Julia Krystal and Kit Blade, and the three are often seen together as a team representing the Leo Institute. His primary rivalry is with Yuya Sakaki, whose unconventional Pendulum Summoning ultimately defeats Dipper's refined Xyz strategies. He also holds animosity toward Shay Obsidian, whom he views as a disgrace to Xyz Summoning for using it to attack their school.

Dipper’s notable abilities revolve entirely around his Constellar deck, which focuses on Xyz Summoning. His strategy centers on rapidly summoning his ace monsters, Constellar Pleiades and Constellar Ptolemy M7. These powerful monsters have effects that allow him to "bounce" his opponent's cards back to the hand, effectively clearing the field and clearing the way for a direct attack. He also uses his deep knowledge of specific Action Fields, such as Cosmic Sanctuary, to strategically cut off his opponents from accessing Action Cards, granting him a significant tactical advantage.
