Description
Meiko Shiraki is a prominent character in the anime Prison School, serving as the vice-president of the Underground Student Council at Hachimitsu Academy. She is the closest confidant and most loyal subordinate of the council's president, Mari Kurihara, and is assigned as the primary warden overseeing the male students imprisoned in the school's on-site detention center.

Physically, Meiko is exceptionally tall for a Japanese female student, standing approximately 178 to 180 centimeters tall, a stature that is often described as being on par with male students. This height is usually accentuated by her choice of high-heeled boots. She possesses a figure of exaggerated proportions, including a bust size well over 100 centimeters, which she makes little effort to conceal. Her typical attire consists of a dark, tightly fitted school uniform worn with an open collar, knee-length boots, and oval-shaped glasses. She is almost always seen carrying a horsewhip or a pointing stick, which she uses as tools for punishment and intimidation.

Her personality is defined by a strict, sadistic, and highly disciplined nature. Meiko is an extreme perfectionist who holds herself and others to unyielding standards. She maintains her formidable physical condition through rigorous daily exercises, such as performing hundreds of squats and push-ups. While she projects an image of a cruel and misandristic queen, enthusiastically meting out physical punishment to the male prisoners, her motivations are rooted in a deep-seated psychological history. In her childhood, she was severely bullied by a girl named Kate Takenomiya due to her developing body, which left her with a profound sense of shame and inferiority. This trauma was overcome when Mari Kurihara befriended her and convinced her to take pride in her appearance, forging an unbreakable bond of absolute loyalty and devotion in Meiko.

This devotion is Meiko's primary driving force. She views Mari as her savior and acts as her enforcer without question. Her role in the story is initially that of an antagonist, where she collaborates with Mari to break the spirits of the imprisoned boys through grueling labor and corporal punishment. However, her strict enforcement sometimes backfires, as the masochistic tendencies of one prisoner cause him to perceive her abuse as pleasure. Meiko is also surprisingly capable of showing sympathy, such as allowing prisoners to request last meals or gathering insects for one prisoner's final request, demonstrating a complex character beneath her harsh exterior.

A significant part of Meiko's character arc involves a psychological breakdown. Following the machinations of the Aboveground Student Council, she is manipulated into believing she is responsible for a fire that killed Mari's pet crows, leading to a complete mental regression. In this state, she reverts to the timid, fearful, and childlike personality she had before meeting Mari. Her recovery is a central point of the sports festival arc, where she is temporarily jolted back to her old self by carbonated drinks before ultimately experiencing a near-death experience during a cavalry battle that allows her to truly overcome her trauma and regain her former strength and identity.

Her key relationships are centered on her loyalty to Mari and her adversarial dynamic with Kate. She also has a notable connection with the prisoner, Andre, whose masochistic desires she finds both repulsive and confusing due to her own lack of understanding of such fetishes.

Meiko possesses several notable abilities, primarily her immense physical strength and combat prowess. She is capable of performing difficult feats of strength, such as fingertip pull-ups and maintaining a handstand for extended periods. She is a proficient practitioner of judo, with her signature move being a powerful leglock. Another distinctive trait is her tendency to sweat profusely, which is presented as a result of her high metabolic rate and intense physical exertion, as well as a physical manifestation of her anxiety when she fears she has disappointed Mari.
