Description
Metal Bat, whose real name is Bad, is an S-Class professional hero ranked fifteenth in the Hero Association. He is a young man with black hair styled in a pompadour and sharp eyes that emphasize his hot temper. He typically wears a black Japanese school uniform draped over a red long‑sleeved turtleneck sweater, paired with black trousers. His appearance and mannerisms strongly resemble a stereotypical Japanese bancho delinquent, and he speaks with a rough, pirate‑like accent, often replacing “your” with “yer.”
His personality is brash, impulsive, and extremely self‑confident. He openly states that he does not care whether a threat is Demon‑ or Dragon‑level; he believes he can handle it himself. This recklessness leads him to act without thinking, such as immediately smashing one of Melzalgald’s strategic marbles instead of analyzing its purpose. He is quick to challenge anyone who offends him, including fellow heroes like Sweet Mask, and he is one of the loudest and most hot‑blooded members of the S‑Class. Despite this aggressive exterior, Metal Bat has a strong moral core. He is deeply caring and protective, especially toward his younger sister, Zenko, whom he dotes on. He was genuinely upset to miss her piano recital because of hero duties and made a promise to stop fighting in front of her. His kindness also extends to others; he shows mercy to a defeated Garou and does not hold grudges—when two C‑Class heroes apologize to him for a past failure, he simply tells them it is no big deal.
His primary motivations are protecting innocent people and upholding his reputation as a formidable fighter. He does not care about his official rank or public recognition, much like Saitama. His devotion to his sister serves as a moral anchor and a source of emotional depth, and his love for his pet cat, Tama, further softens his rough edges.
In the story, Metal Bat is a supporting S‑Class hero who appears during major threats. He fought against the alien invasion led by Melzalgald and later engaged Garou in a fierce battle. His role emphasizes raw, brute force and an unbreakable fighting spirit rather than strategy or technical skill. He struggles with the Hero Association’s hierarchy due to his undisciplined behavior, but his strength and determination make him a respected—if unpredictable—ally.
Key relationships include his sister Zenko, who humanizes him and drives much of his protective instinct. He has a rivalry of sorts with Sweet Mask, whom he threatened without hesitation. He also shows grudging respect for Garou’s abilities and is fascinated by Garou’s growth. Among fellow heroes, he holds no lasting enmity and even bonds with lower‑ranked heroes after they prove their sincerity.
Over the course of the series, Metal Bat matures slightly as a fighter. He becomes more disciplined, though he retains his impulsive core. His experiences teach him to combine his raw power with some tactical thinking, but he never loses his signature recklessness. His growth is shown through his willingness to hold back or show mercy when the situation calls for it, and through his eventual willingness to accept help from other heroes.
Metal Bat’s primary ability is his immense physical strength combined with his signature weapon, a metal baseball bat. His true power, however, comes from a unique fighting spirit: the longer he fights and the more damage he sustains, the stronger, faster, and more durable he becomes. His reflexes sharpen, his body hardens, and his attacks grow exponentially more powerful as the battle progresses. This escalation can reach extreme levels, making him a dangerous opponent even for Dragon‑level threats. He lacks advanced martial arts skill, relying instead on brawling techniques and brute force. When necessary, he can also demonstrate cleverness in combat, such as using the environment to his advantage. Notably, he refuses to fight someone who cannot defend themselves, showing a code of honor even in battle.
