Description
Puri-Puri Prisoner, sometimes written as Pri-Pri-Prisoner, is an S-Class professional hero ranked seventeenth within the Hero Association in the anime One Punch Man. He is a tall, exceptionally muscular man with a shaved head, exaggerated facial features, and a theatrical, flamboyant presence, and he is most often seen wearing a prison uniform rather than a traditional hero costume. He also acts as the de facto leader and boss of the inmates held at Smelly Lid Prison, which serves as both his residence and his base of operations between hero duties.

His background is unusual for a hero. As a child, he took swimming lessons, and at some point later in life he was arrested for sexually assaulting a number of men, an offense that resulted in a lengthy prison sentence and shaped both his reputation and his chosen name. Despite his incarceration, he remains an active member of the Hero Association because of his immense combat ability, and he moves freely between prison life and hero work, returning voluntarily to his cell when missions are complete.

In personality, Puri-Puri Prisoner is openly homosexual and highly expressive about his attraction to handsome men, whether they are fellow heroes, criminals, or monsters. This attraction is the source of much of his behavior, both comedic and controversial, and it was the direct cause of his imprisonment. He is also notably absent-minded and theatrical, sometimes making careless decisions in the heat of battle, such as failing to remove his sweater before powering up and then blaming his opponent for the garment's destruction. Underneath this exaggerated exterior, he is sincere, warm-hearted, and genuinely brave. He responds to danger with a willingness to sacrifice himself for others, and he treats heroism as a serious responsibility even when his methods are strange.

His motivations combine genuine heroism with personal desire. He believes in redemption through love and affection, and he views attractive men as his angels, people he feels compelled to protect, rehabilitate, or win over. Criminals he apprehends are often added to what he casually treats as a harem, and during hero meetings he has requested permission to take charge of captured monsters in order to reform them through his own methods. His fighting style is likewise framed as an expression of love, and his emotional conviction directly fuels the power of his techniques.

Within the story, Puri-Puri Prisoner serves as a supporting S-Class hero who appears during major monster incidents. His most significant early moment comes during the Deep Sea King arc, when he arrives to protect civilians and other heroes from the sea monster. He takes severe punishment in that battle and is ultimately defeated, but he refuses to abandon the fight and earns respect for his endurance and his willingness to put himself at risk. He later takes part in the assault on the Dark Matter Thieves' spaceship, where his speed allows him to rescue people from the crashing vessel, and he plays a role in the larger Monster Association conflict, where his continued defeats and subsequent training push him toward new combat techniques.

His key relationships are primarily with his fellow S-Class heroes, with whom he shares a loose camaraderie despite his eccentric reputation. He is loyal and dependable in battle, though his unsolicited advances toward attractive men often create awkward or comedic friction. Inside Smelly Lid Prison, he acts as a mentor figure to a group of inmates, some of whom he tries to inspire toward hero-like conduct, believing that they still have a long way to go before they can contribute meaningfully. His most notable adversarial relationship is with the Deep Sea King, whose brutal strength forced him to confront his own limits and later inspired a deadlier variation of his signature attack.

His development across the series is defined by growth through defeat. Early in the story, he struggles against Demon-level monsters and is overwhelmed by the Deep Sea King, leading him to describe himself as the weakest of the S-Class heroes. After that loss, he commits to training and returns noticeably stronger, becoming capable of defeating opponents that previously overpowered him. He also develops new abilities in response to extreme emotion and stress, and his body shows an unusual capacity for rapid recovery and accelerated growth after intense battles.

In terms of abilities, Puri-Puri Prisoner is physically formidable even by S-Class standards. He possesses immense raw strength, with punches heavy enough to break through the thick steel walls of Smelly Lid Prison, and he has demonstrated the power to damage Dragon-level monsters and tear holes in their bodies. He also has exceptional durability, allowing him to withstand repeated strikes from powerful Demon-level opponents before going down. His signature combat style is the Angel Style, a set of dramatic techniques that grow stronger as he removes pieces of clothing and adopts grand poses. These include the Angel Rush, a high-speed barrage of punches, and the Angel Dash, which lets him move swiftly enough to outrun a crashing alien ship. He has also developed vibration-based abilities, most notably the Vibration Angel form, in which his hair hardens into armor-like plating and his shaking body increases the force of his attacks. Later, he creates emotion-driven techniques such as the Angel Crawl, which allows him to swim through concrete and maneuver underground with his bare hands, and the Angel Hug, a crushing embrace inspired by his desire to hold his opponents close. When his killing intent is fully awakened, his Angel Rush transforms into the Dark Angel Rush, a version in which his wings appear blackened and every strike is delivered with lethal force.
