Description
Lord Betrayus, whose full name is Betrayus Sneakerus Spheros, is the main antagonist of the animated series Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures. He is the supreme ruler of the Netherworld, a dark realm beneath Pac-World, and commands all ghosts and monsters that dwell there.

Betrayus was once a living Pac-Worlder and the younger brother of President Stratos Spheros, the benevolent leader of Pac-World. Growing up, Betrayus resented living in his brother's shadow and became consumed by jealousy and ambition. He staged a coup attempt against the government, launching a violent assault on the populace in a bid for power. This act of betrayal led to him and his army being stripped of their corporeal bodies and banished to the Netherworld for eternity. As a ghost, he later regained contact with the surface world and set his sights on conquering Pac-World once more. His primary goal is to steal the power berries from the Tree of Life, defeat Pac-Man, and reclaim a physical form in order to rule the surface with an iron fist.

In terms of personality, Betrayus is depicted as a tyrannical, temperamental, and egocentric overlord. He is flamboyant and melodramatic, often delivering grandiose speeches and throwing childish tantrums when things do not go his way. Despite his genuine malice and desire for conquest, he is also portrayed as incompetent and bumbling, frequently making hasty, ill-conceived plans that are easily foiled by Pac-Man and his friends. He is prone to blaming his underlings for his own failures and insults them harshly, earning little genuine loyalty from his ghostly minions. For all his posturing, he is cowardly at heart and easily frustrated when his schemes backfire.

Betrayus’s role in the story is that of the primary antagonist who relentlessly plots to conquer Pac-World. He often directs his ghost army to attack the city, search for the Repository (a storage chamber containing the ghosts' former bodies), and prevent Pac-Man from obtaining power berries. He monitors Pac-Man through slug cameras and sends his ghost forces to do his bidding while he remains on his throne in the Netherworld.

Key relationships include his bitter rivalry with his brother, President Spheros, whom he despises for being favored and for standing in his way. His animosity toward Pac-Man is personal and central to the plot, as Pac-Man is the last of the Yellow Pac-Worlders and possesses the ability to eat ghosts, making him a direct threat. Betrayus also commands a group of four ghost minions—Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde—who secretly ally themselves with Pac-Man because they dislike living in the Netherworld. Betrayus treats them with contempt, often belittling and threatening them. He also has a servant named Butt-ler, whom he abuses verbally.

Character development is minimal; Betrayus remains a largely static villain who repeats the same cycle of plotting and failure throughout the series. His backstory of sibling rivalry and downfall is established early, and while he occasionally shows a hint of vulnerability or frustration, he never truly reforms or learns from his mistakes.

Notable abilities include his ghostly form, which allows him to survive in the Netherworld and command other ghosts. He can possess objects or individuals, project his voice across realms, and unleash fiery attacks, earning him the title of the Ultimate Fire Ghost. He also has access to the Netherworld's technology and uses slug cameras for surveillance. However, his lack of a physical body prevents him from directly engaging in combat on the surface for extended periods without the aid of the Repository.
