Iris Freyja is a central figure from the anime and light novel series Unlimited Fafnir. She is a sixteen-year-old girl who possesses the distinct silver-white hair and pink eyes characteristic of her kind. Her dragon mark, a physical sign of her powers, is situated on her upper left abdomen. She holds the military rank of二等兵 (Private Second Class) and is a student of the prestigious Midgard Academy, where she is assigned to the special class known as the Brynhildr Classroom.

Iris's past is marked by tragedy. One year before the story begins, her family fell victim to a disaster caused by the White Dragon known as Leviathan. After this traumatic event, her abilities as a "D," a female dragon summoner, awakened. Driven by a strong personal conviction that she could not remain idle and must take a stand against the dragons, she chose to enroll at Midgard Academy to train and fight.

In terms of personality, Iris is generally portrayed as a cheerful and bright young woman. However, she also has a very pronounced clumsy and air-headed side, which often leads to embarrassing situations. For instance, her initial encounter with the male protagonist, Mononobe Yuu, occurred when she lost her swimsuit in the ocean and was searching for it, leading her to mistake him for an intruder. Despite her insecurities about being slow on the uptake, Iris possesses a remarkably strong will. She is persistent in the face of hopeless odds and is very open-hearted, showing a capacity to easily forgive others and even socialize with former enemies. She does not harbor feelings of hatred or revenge.

Within the story, Iris begins as what is considered the "laggard" of her class. Her unique ability allows her to perform物质变换 (material transformation) by manipulating dark matter. However, any matter she tries to transform, from common elements to the stable mythril, ends up in a violent explosion, making her seem incompetent. Her role evolves when Yuu devises a novel strategy for her. Instead of trying to prevent the explosions, he helps her weaponize them. Using her high-level spatial awareness for precision, Iris masters the ability to generate powerful long-range explosions, effectively turning her perceived weakness into a formidable offensive asset.

Her key relationships heavily involve her developing bond with Mononobe Yuu, which moves from initial misunderstanding to mutual trust and romantic affection. She also interacts closely with the other members of the Brynhildr Classroom, particularly Yuu's sister, Mitsuki, creating a complex emotional dynamic within the group.

Iris undergoes significant development as her powers evolve. During a critical battle against the White Dragon Leviathan, she breaks through its defensive repulsion field, an act that allows her to inherit the dragon's authority to manipulate repulsive forces. In a later victory against the dragon Basilisk, she inherits an even more powerful ability known as灾厄时间 (Catastrophe) which accelerates the flow of time, causing rapid aging and decay. This immense power comes with a grave risk, as its repeated use causes her body to undergo draconification, slowly transforming her into a dragon. Her fictional armament is a silver-white staff named Caduceus, which later transforms into a red version called Caduceus Catastrophe when channeling her inherited powers.
