Description
Havia Winchel is a central character in the military science fiction series Heavy Object. He is a seventeen-year-old soldier serving in the Legitimacy Kingdom’s 37th Mobile Maintenance Battalion, where he holds the rank of private first class and works primarily as a radar analyst.

Born as the eldest son of the noble Winchel family, Havia’s decision to join the military is rooted in family obligation rather than patriotism. He enlisted to fulfill the mandatory military service required to claim his inheritance and secure his position as head of the family. A significant part of this motivation stems from his engagement to the daughter of the rival Vanderbilt family; by proving himself worthy of his inheritance, he hopes to gain enough influence to end the longstanding feud between their two houses and legitimize their union.

Despite his privileged background, Havia exhibits a personality that is far from the refined noble archetype. He has a reputation as a brash and disorderly soldier, often acting in a cowardly manner and seeking to avoid dangerous situations whenever possible. He frequently expresses pessimistic views about the suicidal plans that unfold around him and tries to flee from combat, only to be persuaded or goaded into action by his partner. Yet beneath this self-serving exterior lies a capable and clear-headed operative. When a crisis is unavoidable, Havia demonstrates an ability to remain calm under pressure and think with cold, rational logic, a quality that balances his friend’s more reckless and unconventional ideas.

Within the 37th Mobile Maintenance Battalion, Havia forms half of a famous duo alongside his best friend Qwenthur Barbotage. While Qwenthur is a student studying Object design, Havia is the more conventional soldier of the pair, having completed a six-month training course where he learned to handle weapons and endure combat situations. Their partnership is defined by a stark contrast in attitudes; Havia’s constant negativity and desire for self-preservation serve as an unintended but necessary check on Qwenthur’s wild creativity. Their commanding officer, Froleytia Capistrano, frequently reprimands them both for their constant insubordination and chaotic methods, though Havia remains one of the few individuals who treats the Object pilot Milinda Brantini with genuine respect.

As a soldier in an era where enormous spherical weapons known as Objects dominate warfare, Havia is one of the few people who has received traditional combat training. He is highly skilled in a wide range of infantry tactics, including precision shooting, demolition, infiltration, and direct assault. His standard equipment includes a.50 caliber handgun and a multi-attachment assault rifle outfitted with optical scopes, infrared cameras, and audio capture microphones, allowing it to function effectively as a mid-range sniping platform. He also carries a combat knife that he can throw with remarkable accuracy and a portable anti-tank missile launcher for engaging armored vehicles. In his official capacity as a radar analyst, he is adept at reading the flow of battle, analyzing an Object’s specifications, and identifying a machine’s idiosyncrasies and weaknesses simply by observing its movements. His competence across all these fields makes him a nearly universal asset in any non-Object engagement.

Havia and Qwenthur achieved the legendary feat of becoming the first people in history to destroy an Object without the use of another Object or nuclear weapons. Over the course of the story, his initial goal of simply surviving to collect easy achievements and return home fades as he is drawn into increasingly high-stakes operations around the world. Despite his constant complaining, he repeatedly chooses to follow his partner into extreme danger, ultimately proving himself a reliable hero who, against his own wishes, plays a pivotal role in changing the nature of modern warfare.
