Description
Kenta Yamada is a student at Hanazuka Prefectural High School and a classmate of the protagonist, Hibiki Amami. He is distinguished by being the only male student who is consistently part of the main group of friends, which otherwise consists of Hibiki and several of her female classmates. In terms of appearance, Kenta has short, light-colored hair, often described as light brown, with bangs that nearly reach his eyes, and brown-gold eyes. His school uniform changes with the season, and on a trip to the beach, he wore only swimming shorts.

Kenta has an outgoing and energetic personality, though he often presents himself as a bit of a dork. A key trait is his frequent joking about the concept of a harem, a tendency that regularly provokes immediate and violent retribution from his female friends, particularly Kana Uehara and Kyoko Esumi, who do not tolerate his teasing or suggestive comments. Despite his penchant for foolishness and these comedic outbursts, Kenta is fundamentally a kind and caring young man who genuinely worries about his friends when they face doubts or personal problems. He is also noted for having no particular fear of ghosts or the supernatural, making him comfortable in the presence of the spirits that only Hibiki can see.

Motivation-wise, Kenta does not have a central personal quest but acts as a supportive and grounding presence within the group. His role in the story is primarily that of a comic relief character and a secondary friend to the main female cast, often participating in their daily school life and various adventures, such as trips to the beach or the cultural festival. He is sometimes referred to as the group's pack mule, implying he helps carry things during their excursions. His relationships are central to his character. He is very close to his older brother, Masaki Yamada, who shares his high energy levels and bears a strong resemblance to him. Masaki is a police officer and has made appearances with the group, such as during a beach trip where he develops a crush on Kyoko Esumi. Kenta's most defining relationships are with his female classmates; his interactions with them are a consistent source of physical comedy, yet the foundation of their dynamic is mutual friendship and concern. While he does not undergo a significant personal transformation or character arc, his consistent presence and unwavering, if sometimes clumsy, support for his friends define his development throughout the series.

Regarding notable abilities, Kenta is not depicted with any supernatural gifts like Hibiki's sixth sense. His most prominent, quasi-comedic ability is being able to remain conscious and recover quickly after being hit by a thrown object or suffering the violent reactions of Kana and Kyoko. Beyond this resilience, his primary function is as a normal, energetic male friend providing a different perspective within a group largely focused on supernatural phenomena.
