Description
Miki Naoki is a second-year student at Megurigaoka Private High School and the youngest junior member of the School Living Club. Before joining the club, she survived the initial outbreak of a zombie-like infection by taking refuge in a shopping mall with her best friend, Kei Shido. When Kei could no longer endure the waiting and left on her own, Miki remained alone in the mall for some time, living among the remnants of other survivors who had already perished. Her isolation ended when the School Living Club—Yuki Takeya, Kurumi Ebisuzawa, and Yuuri Wakasa—arrived at the mall during a supply run and rescued her.

Initially, Miki struggled to adapt to the group's dynamic. She was openly skeptical and critical of the way Kurumi and Yuuri played along with Yuki's cheerful delusions, which allowed Yuki to believe the world was still normal. Miki saw this as a form of denial and found it difficult to accept. Over time, however, she came to understand that Yuki's illusions served as a necessary psychological coping mechanism for their grim reality. This realization marked the beginning of Miki's emotional integration into the club, and she gradually warmed to Yuki and the others.

Miki is polite, kind, and consistently uses honorifics when addressing her seniors. Though normally quiet and reserved, she is deeply caring and supportive, often comforting her friends when they feel discouraged and offering words of encouragement. Her personality undergoes a notable shift after leaving the mall: she becomes highly proactive, frequently volunteering for solo missions and engaging in combat against the infected with the same willingness as Kurumi. This proactive nature, combined with her practical intelligence and survival experience, makes her a valuable asset to the group. She is an effective fighter, typically wielding a crowbar, and relies on her tactical mindset and resourcefulness rather than any supernatural abilities.

Miki's motivations are driven by a desire for connection and survival, as well as a lingering sense of guilt over leaving Kei behind. Flashbacks of Kei haunt her thoughts, and this guilt remains a central emotional thread throughout her story—even continuing into the sequel series Otayori, where Miki stays with the surviving girls at St. Isidore University and still grapples with her past choices. Her relationship with Kei is the emotional foundation of her character arc, influencing her protective instincts toward her new friends. Within the club, her initial friction with Kurumi and Yuuri evolves into genuine camaraderie as shared experiences strengthen their bonds. Her rapport with Yuki is particularly significant: Miki learns to appreciate the depth of Yuki's illusions as a means of coping, and she develops a protective fondness for her.

Miki's development traces her transformation from a hesitant, guilt-ridden survivor into a courageous and loyal ally who willingly takes risks for the safety of her group. She proves adaptable, able to process the harsh reality of their world while still offering emotional support to those around her. Her notable abilities include combat proficiency with a crowbar, sharp problem-solving skills, and the resilience to carry on despite her inner turmoil. Through her journey, Miki becomes an essential member of the School Living Club, contributing both practical survival skills and emotional depth to the narrative.
