Description
Nicolas Brown is one of the central protagonists of Gangsta. He is a deaf Twilight, a former mercenary, and currently works as a part of Benriya, the Handymen, alongside Worick Arcangelo and later Alex Benedetto. He is 34 years old, stands 169 centimeters tall, and has black hair and black eyes. His blood type is B, and he is classified as an A/0 ranked Twilight, a designation that makes him both feared and reviled on the streets.
Nicolas is highly skilled with a sword and has an imposing, somewhat aloof presence. He communicates primarily through sign language, though he is capable of limited speech. Despite his rough and intimidating exterior, he has a softer side, particularly toward a young girl named Nina, for whom he shows genuine care. He also gradually becomes more accepting of Alex's presence in the Benriya residence.
His background is steeped in trauma. He is the son of Gaston Brown, the commander of the West Gate Mercenaries, and an unnamed Tagged prostitute. As a child, Nicolas was forced into mercenary work, subjected to severe physical and verbal abuse, and heavily medicated to keep him submissive. He was ultimately abandoned by his father, who refused to acknowledge him as human. This childhood of exploitation and violence shaped him into a stoic, emotionally reserved individual who often appears apathetic. He rarely displays emotion except during combat, where he can show vicious joy and bloodlust.
Nicolas is a Hagure, the child of a normal human and a Twilight. Like all Twilights, he is dependent on the drug Celebrer to survive, and its use slowly poisons and shortens his lifespan. His official A/0 ranking is misleading: without overdosing on uppers, he is only the equivalent of a B/5, leading others to view him as a faker. His reliance on the drug and his enjoyment of fighting suggest a reckless disregard for his own well-being, as if he is living on borrowed time. His primary motivation is survival within the criminal underworld, and his bond with Worick is a significant force in his life. The two share a deep mutual respect and understanding built through years of working together.
In terms of development, Nicolas begins the story as a seemingly heartless enforcer but slowly reveals unexpected depth and empathy, especially through his relationships with Nina and Alex. He is forced to confront the reality of his drug use and his identity beyond that of a ruthless killer. His key relationships include Worick, his partner and closest friend; Nina, who brings out his gentle side; and Alex, whose acceptance into the household marks a step toward emotional openness. He also shows a capacity for friendship beyond Worick, such as accepting Doug after their initial fight.
His notable abilities stem from his Twilight nature, granting enhanced strength, speed, and agility, which he further amplifies through Celebrer overdoses. He is a supremely proficient swordsman, capable of taking on multiple opponents and high-ranked Twilights. However, his dependency on uppers and the constant strain of combat take a severe toll on his body and mind.
