Description
Draco is a female Dragonewt, a liminal species distantly descended from dragons. She first appears as a minor antagonist during a date between the human Kimihito Kurusu and the lamia Miia at a public aquarium. Her appearance is notably androgynous; she has a flat chest, dresses in stylish masculine clothing such as elegant pants, shirts, and a heavy trench coat, and often refers to herself with the masculine pronoun boku. This presentation leads many, including Miia, to initially mistake her for a man. She has blonde hair, blue eyes, stands 163 centimeters tall, and possesses physical traits of her species, including split pupils, fangs, scales, a large prehensile tail, and a pair of dragon wings.
Draco’s personality is a complex mixture of arrogance and deep insecurity. She initially presents herself as chivalrous and calm, but quickly reveals a sadistic, egomaniacal, and arrogant side, holding a strong belief in her own draconic superiority. She harbors a general disdain for humans and men, whom she considers savages, yet her own actions are often driven by impulsive and selfish desires. Despite her tough exterior, she is surprisingly squeamish and becomes extremely embarrassed when humiliated. Her core flaw is a profound blindness to her own failings; she is self-righteous to a fault and utterly fails to recognize how her abrasive and often aggressive behavior alienates others. This impulsiveness, combined with a genuine but clumsy desire for connection, consistently leads her into comedic and self-inflicted misfortune.
Her primary motivation is a misguided search for friendship and romance, specifically directed toward other reptilian liminals. She develops an immediate and intense attraction to Miia, which she confuses with a desire for a reptilian companion. Viewing Kimihito as an obstacle to Miia’s affections, her jealousy leads her to kidnap Miia and attempt to forcibly undress her, actions she rationalizes as pursuing a friendship. Her role in the story is largely that of a recurring troublemaker and comic foil. She serves as a minor antagonist whose schemes consistently backfire, leading to her own humiliation and capture by the monster regulation group MON. Her plans are often unhinged; she once attempted to physically attack Kimihito, only to be swiftly subdued by the slime girl Suu, who molested her into submission. Later, she transfers her affections to Liz, a Lizardwoman, making similarly blunt and unwelcome advances.
Draco’s key relationships are defined by conflict and misunderstanding. She sees Kimihito as a rival and frequently bickers with him, though their relationship becomes more neutral after her initial schemes fail. Her pursuit of Miia is entirely one-sided; Miia strongly dislikes her after the aquarium incident, a fact that Draco remains oblivious to for a significant period. She develops a fellow associate in mischief with Lilith, another problematic liminal, as the two are often forced to serve joint punishments together under the supervision of the kobold Polt. Her attempts to befriend or charm others, such as when she gave identical gifts to Miia and Liz in a clumsy attempt to apologize, often end in disaster and further anger the objects of her affection.
In terms of development, Draco shows little true growth in her personality or self-awareness, remaining impulsive and self-absorbed. However, her circumstances evolve from a freely acting antagonist to a probationary citizen forced to perform community service. After being captured for leaving her host family without permission, she is placed under Polt's watch and made to perform various penal tasks, such as running a forty-kilometer marathon and helping to remove invasive catfish from a river. Her story is cyclical: she causes trouble due to her unthinking passion, is punished for it, and then almost immediately repeats her errors, never quite learning from the experience. This pattern solidifies her role as a character who unintentionally creates chaos wherever she goes.
As a Dragonewt, Draco possesses several notable abilities. Her scales are incredibly durable, described as harder than steel and capable of deflecting bullets. She also has inhuman strength, enough to overpower a lamia like Miia with one hand. Her tail is prehensile and strong enough to support her body weight, though its tip is also an extremely sensitive erogenous zone, a weakness that can be exploited. Despite her large wings, she cannot achieve true flight due to insufficient chest muscle mass and their small surface area, though she may be capable of gliding short distances. Like many reptiles, she is poikilothermic, or cold-blooded, making her susceptible to cold temperatures and prone to hibernation, a condition she claims can be alleviated with coffee.
