Description
Fraw Bow is a resident of the space colony Side 7 and a central civilian character in the Universal Century timeline. She is a classmate and neighbor of Amuro Ray, and her family consists of her mother and grandfather. Known for her strong sense of responsibility, even before the war she took it upon herself to look after Amuro, whose father was frequently absent, ensuring he ate properly and maintained basic hygiene. In her school, she served as a member of the disciplinary committee. She is also childhood friends with Hayato Kobayashi, another resident of Side 7.

On September 18, UC 0079, when Zeon forces attacked Side 7, Fraw went to alert Amuro about the evacuation. During the attack, she witnessed the death of her mother and grandfather, becoming an orphan herself; her survival was a direct result of having gone to find Amuro. Following the attack, she evacuated aboard the Earth Federation assault carrier White Base alongside Amuro and other civilians.

Fraw's personality is defined by her nurturing and resilient nature. Despite the immediate tragedy she suffers, she quickly adapts to her new circumstances and volunteers to help the depleted crew of the White Base. She initially serves in a support role before formally taking over as the ship's communications officer. In addition to her technical duties, she assumes the role of a surrogate mother to three war orphans brought aboard the ship: Katz Hawin, Letz Cofan, and Kikka Kitamoto, overseeing their daily welfare and providing them with stability during the conflict.

Her primary motivation is the safety and well-being of those around her, particularly Amuro and the orphans in her care. Her relationship with Amuro is complex; while she harbors strong romantic feelings for him and cares for him deeply, her affection is largely one-sided. As the war progresses, Amuro becomes increasingly distant and is drawn to other women like Matilda Ajan and Lalah Sune, causing Fraw to feel jealousy and heartache. During this time, she grows closer to Hayato Kobayashi, who confides his own insecurities to her, and she ultimately finds comfort in his companionship.

Fraw's role in the story evolves from a concerned civilian to an integral crew member of the White Base, contributing to major battles such as Operation Odessa, the Battle of Solomon, and the assault on A Baoa Qu. Her ability to maintain hope and care for others even in the most dire circumstances makes her a source of emotional support for the crew. After the One Year War, she marries Hayato, formally adopts the three orphans, and starts a family with him. Even after her marriage, she maintains a lingering affection for Amuro.

Years later, during the Gryps Conflict in UC 0087, a pregnant Fraw visits a dispirited Amuro, who is under house arrest, and plays a crucial role in re-igniting his fighting spirit. Her life is marked by further tragedy when her adopted son Katz is killed in battle, followed by her husband Hayato during the colony drop on Dublin, leaving her a widow.

In terms of abilities, Fraw is a skilled communications officer, adept at coordinating with Earth Federation forces even under fire. Her most notable ability, however, is her exceptional capacity for caregiving and her resilience in the face of overwhelming loss. She demonstrates remarkable emotional maturity, eventually coming to accept her platonic friendship with Amuro while building a new life for herself and her family. Her legacy is that of a civilian who embodied resolve and maternal strength, shaping the role of support crews in the narratives of the Universal Century.
