Description
Don Teabolo Mass, also known as Don Teabolo, is a wealthy former businessman residing in a large estate in Andalusia, Southern Europe on Earth. An old acquaintance of Jimba Ral, the head of the Ral family, Teabolo initially has no intention of involving himself in the political conflicts of the space colonies. This changes when Jimba Ral brings the orphaned children of the late Zeon Zum Deikun, Casval and Artesia, to Earth to hide them from the powerful Zabi family. To protect the children and avert the Zabis’ attention, Teabolo has them entered into his family registry, legally adopting them and giving them the new identities of Édouard Mass and Sayla Mass.

Teabolo is a large, influential man of considerable wealth, living in a castle-like residence with a devoted household staff. He is defined by his generous and gentle personality, treating his adopted children as if they were his own kin. He provides them with a peaceful and affluent life, in stark contrast to the political turmoil they escaped. Sayla grows into a kind-hearted young woman who volunteers at a nearby refugee camp, a cause Teabolo supports financially. Even as Édouard is forced to listen to Jimba Ral’s persistent lectures on anti-Zabi politics and his father’s prophecies, Teabolo’s home remains a haven of stability.

Despite his desire for peace, Teabolo is not naive. He is protective of his family and harbors a sharp, pragmatic edge, particularly concerning the dangerous political games of others. When he discovers that Jimba Ral has been secretly conspiring with Anaheim Electronics to plan an armed counteroffensive against the Zabis, Teabolo is furious, recognizing the reckless danger it poses to everyone in his household. He confronts Jimba, making it clear that such a plan is doomed to fail. Demonstrating his deep respect for Édouard and Sayla’s autonomy, he agrees to step aside and forget their three years of guardianship if they wish to follow Jimba’s revolutionary path. This moment reveals a man who, while deeply loving, is willing to sacrifice his own role as a father figure for the sake of the children’s chosen futures.

Teabolo’s role in the story is that of a benevolent and ultimately tragic guardian. His household is attacked by commandos and a powerful armored assassin sent by the Zabi family in response to Jimba’s scheming. During the assault, Teabolo puts up a spirited fight for a man of his age and build, grappling with the armored assailant before being thrown from a third-story window, suffering serious injuries. He survives the attack, but Jimba Ral is killed. Following this tragedy, Teabolo is visited by his old friend Shu Yashima, who advises him to make a show of submission to the Zabis to prevent further calamity. Acting on this counsel, Teabolo decides to emigrate from Earth with his family to Texas Colony, a space colony in the neutral Side 5 (Loum), demonstrating his withdrawal from the Zabis’ sphere of conflict.

Teabolo’s relationship with his adopted children is the most significant of his life. He provides them with not just a name and shelter but a genuine paternal love. He laments the cruel fate that prevents Édouard from reaching his full potential and feels a deep, protective anger when his son is mistreated. He also builds a family grave for the siblings to mourn their biological mother, Astraia, under a pseudonym for their safety. His development is subtle but tragic; he moves from a powerful, independent patriarch in control of his own world to a wounded man forced to flee his home to protect his family, only to face further tragedy.

After relocating to Texas Colony, Teabolo’s health deteriorates, likely due to his previous injuries and the immense stress. Although he begins to recover somewhat under Sayla’s devoted care, their new life is cut short during the Battle of Loum. In the chaos of the battle, riots erupt in Texas Colony. Teabolo’s household is attacked by a mob because of his family’s friendship with the Aznables, who have been accused of sympathizing with Zeon. Despite Sayla’s brave efforts to defend their home, Teabolo Mass dies of shock during the attack. While he does not pilot a mobile suit or possess any direct combat abilities, his notable trait is his resilient physical courage, demonstrated when he fights back against a professional assassin despite being unarmed and outmatched. His true legacy is as a figure of immense kindness, the only true father figure in the lives of Casval and Artesia, who provided them with a brief, idyllic childhood amidst the darkness of the Universal Century.
