Description
Galina is a central character in the narrative, initially introduced as a cautious and protective teenager living on the fringes of the Yatter Kingdom. He is a young man with brown hair and blue eyes, and he shares a deep, lifelong bond with his childhood friend, Alouette. Their life together is marked by profound tragedy, as both lost their parents to the oppressive regime of the Yatterman army, who were sent to labor in the capital until their deaths. The trauma of this loss caused Alouette to become blind and retreat into a state of denial, leaving Galina as her primary caretaker and protector in a harsh and unforgiving world.
At the start of the story, Galina is characterized by his cautious and somewhat fearful nature. He is deeply mistrustful of strangers, as seen when the Doronbo Gang, led by Leopard, takes shelter in his home. His reliance on chance, such as flipping a coin to make important decisions, highlights his initial lack of confidence and agency. Despite his wariness, a strong moral core drives him to hide the gang from pursuing Yatterman soldiers, even choosing to burn their distinctive uniforms to prevent discovery. Demonstrating resourcefulness and a caring nature that extends beyond his friend, he stays up through the night to knit the gang a new set of clothes. This act of kindness is a turning point, and when the Yatterman army later destroys his home, he makes a conscious choice to join the Doronbo Gang in their rebellion, abandoning his reliance on dice rolls to decide his own path.
His primary motivation is the safety and happiness of Alouette, but this gradually expands to include a desire for justice against the tyrannical rule of Lord Yatterman. As he travels with the group, his role evolves from a dependent to a key and invaluable member of the team. He becomes a student of Boyacky, learning mechanics, and of Tonzura, learning martial arts, which allows him to contribute far more than just his protective instincts. Galina often acts as a grounding presence, understanding the gravity of their situation, such as when he agrees with Boyacky and Tonzura that they should pause their rebellion for Leopard's safety. His strategic mind comes to the forefront on several occasions; he devises an escape plan when the gang is imprisoned and later formulates a strategy to help a captive named Ryu swim to freedom.
Galina's most significant relationships are with Alouette, whom he protects with unwavering devotion, and with Leopard. He grows to respect Leopard's leadership and shares her goal of overthrowing the Yatterman regime. His bond with the reformed Doronbo Gang is cemented through shared hardship and mutual support, transforming them from suspicious strangers into a found family. A poignant moment occurs when he and Alouette encounter General Goro, a high-ranking enforcer of the Yatterman army. Goro eventually regains his lost memories, revealing himself to be Alouette's father, and sacrifices his life to save the group. Galina attempts to go back and help him, and afterward, he carries Goro's cane as a memento.
In the final act, after the group learns that Lord Yatterman is actually the original series villain Dokurobei, they try in vain to alert the public to the truth. Realizing that the oppressed citizens will only listen to the symbol of a hero, Galina makes a crucial decision. He takes up the mantle of Yatterman, calling himself Yatterman-1, and rebuilds their robotic dog Wan into a mech named Yatterwan. Alouette joins him as Yatterman-2. In this new role, he leads the people in a final uprising and, together with Alouette, delivers the decisive blow that ends Dokurobei's reign, thereby redeeming the Yatterman name and bringing hope back to the world. Galina's journey is one of remarkable growth, transforming from a frightened, dice-dependent survivor into a courageous hero who reclaims a corrupted legacy to forge a new future.
