Description
Alouette is a character from the anime Yatterman Night, first appearing as a resident of a small village within the Yatter Kingdom. She is a young teenage girl with an outwardly gentle and innocent demeanor, characterized by her long blonde hair and pink eyes. Her most defining physical trait is her apparent blindness, which leaves her eyes unfocused and unable to see the world around her.

Alouette’s background is marked by profound tragedy. Her parents, along with the parents of her childhood friend and caretaker Galina, were taken away by the Yatter government to work in a factory in the capital city. They ultimately died in an explosion there. The trauma of this loss was so severe that Alouette lost her sight and retreated into a deep state of denial, mentally refusing to acknowledge what had happened to her family. Her personality is a direct result of this trauma. She acts in a perpetually oblivious, childlike, and trusting manner, seemingly unaware of the danger and oppression that pervades the Yatter Kingdom. This behavior is a coping mechanism, a way for her to survive by refusing to engage with the painful reality of her world.

Her core motivation is rooted in the hope of being reunited with her parents. When the main protagonists, the Neo-Doronbo gang, stumble upon her home, she mistakes them for angels. She believes these angels have finally come to grant her wish, either by bringing her parents back or leading her to them. This belief is so strong that she insists on joining the group on their journey to the capital, Yatter Metropolis, seeing them as her guides.

Within the story, Alouette initially serves as a reflection of the Yatter Kingdom’s cruelty, embodying the innocent lives shattered by its regime. Her role evolves from a sheltered victim to an active participant in the narrative. After her house is destroyed by the Yatterman soldiers, she and Galina officially join the main cast, becoming a permanent part of their travels. Her presence often provides moments of quiet tragedy and emotional weight, contrasting with the more overt rebellion of the other characters.

The most significant relationship in Alouette’s life is with Galina, her devoted protector. Having dedicated his life to caring for her since the loss of their families, Galina is fiercely protective and often distrustful of outsiders, while Alouette provides a calming, trusting influence. Her relationship with Leopard, the young leader of the Neo-Doronbo, is also notable. The two share a bond of mutual innocence and hope, and Alouette comes to see Leopard and her friends as the embodiment of the kindness she has been searching for.

Alouette undergoes significant development over the course of the series. Her denial is gradually chipped away as she witnesses the harsh realities of the journey and the true nature of the Yatterman. In a climactic turn, she not only accepts her parents’ death but also regains her sight. In the final episode, she and Galina take on the heroic mantles of Yatterman-1 and Yatterman-2, becoming the new Yattermen to unite the citizens and lead the fight against the true tyrant ruling the kingdom, thereby transforming from a helpless victim into a symbol of hope and a proactive agent of change.

Regarding notable abilities, Alouette does not possess any physical combat skills or superpowers. Her primary notable trait is her resilience and her extraordinary ability to sense people’s kindness, which allows her to trust the Neo-Doronbo gang implicitly. Her ultimate development involves overcoming her trauma-induced blindness, both metaphorically and literally, marking her true strength as her emotional endurance and capacity for hope in the face of despair.
