Description
Dorothy is a character from the anime Yatterman Night. She is an adult woman with blonde, chest-length hair and blue eyes. Dorothy lives on the outskirts of the prosperous Yatter Kingdom, in a poor, isolated village populated by the descendants of the infamous Doronbow Gang. She is the mother of the main protagonist, Leopard.
Kind and caring, Dorothy raises her daughter on heroic stories of the Yattermen, the legendary champions who founded the neighboring kingdom. She encourages Leopard to be a good person and to avoid the villainous path of their ancestors, the Doronbow Gang. Living with Dorothy are her two companions, Voltkatze and Elephantus, who serve as guardians to the family.
Dorothy’s primary role in the story is to establish the initial setting and motivation for the main plot. She falls ill with a serious disease that her community lacks the medicine to treat. On the day of Leopard’s ninth birthday, her condition worsens, prompting Leopard, Voltkatze, and Elephantus to travel to the Yatter Kingdom to beg for the life-saving medicine. Their request for help is violently denied by the Yatter Kingdom's guards, and they return home only to witness Dorothy succumb to her illness. Her death is the catalyst for the story, as it shatters Leopard’s belief in the heroes of her childhood and drives her to form a new Doronbow Gang to take revenge against the Yatter Kingdom.
In terms of development, Dorothy primarily exists as a figure in the past. After her death, the narrative focuses on Leopard and her companions, and one review notes that the series largely forgets Dorothy’s importance, with only brief acknowledgments of her memory later on. Her final words to her daughter are noted as a particularly emotional and poignant moment. No information is available about Dorothy having any notable combat abilities or unique powers.
