Description
Elena Arshavina, also known by the nickname Leshya, is a central figure in World Break: Aria of Curse for a Holy Swordsman. She is introduced as a transfer student from the Russian Branch of the Saviors organization and arrives at Akane Academy with a specific and dangerous purpose.
Physically, Elena is a teenage girl of average height and a slim figure, noted for her short silver hair and a darker skin tone that distinguishes her from many of her peers. She has green or grey eyes, with her right eye often covered by her left hair bang.
As a trained assassin, Elena initially presents a cool-headed, calculating, and level-headed personality, singularly focused on her mission. Her reputation is fearsome, known as the Man-Eater or Savior Killer for her habit of eliminating other Saviors, which has made her a trump card for her Russian superiors. However, beneath this icy exterior lies a fragile and vulnerable individual. She exhibits a surprisingly depressive and even semi-suicidal streak when she is embarrassed or feels rejected. Her vulnerability is closely tied to her belief that she has a younger brother whom she must protect at all costs, a belief that her handler, Condrat, uses to manipulate her. When this illusion is shattered, Elena shows profound vulnerability and hesitance, particularly when it comes to harming anyone connected to Moroha Haimura.
Her role in the story is that of an antagonist who becomes a crucial ally. Upon arriving at the academy, she immediately and openly declares her intent to date Moroha Haimura, using this as a cover to get close to him for her real mission to test, and potentially eliminate, him. This facade, however, becomes complicated as she genuinely befriends Moroha during their time together. Her true motives are revealed during a confrontation, where she attempts to kill him only to be defeated. After Shizuno Urushibara and Moroha reveal the truth about the falseness of her brother's existence and free her from Condrat's hypnotic possession, Elena abandons her mission. Following her release, she becomes a staunch friend and ally to Moroha, even playfully calling him big brother and developing strong feelings for him, which she sometimes masks with jealousy and arguments with Satsuki Ranjō about who has the right to be closest to him. Her redemption arc is further solidified when Moroha later launches an attack on the Russian Branch specifically to save her.
Elena has several key relationships that define her journey. Her connection to Moroha Haimura is the most significant; he shifts from being her assassination target to the most important person in her life. Her relationship with Shizuno Urushibara begins as a rivalry, marked by a fierce battle where Elena shows a sadistic side by threatening to scar Shizuno's face, but it eventually progresses into a friendship. Her dynamic with Condrat is one of pure manipulation, as he exploited her loneliness and desire for family to turn her into a weapon. She is also a devoted, if ultimately betrayed, operative for Vasilisa Yuryevna Mostovaya, the head of the Russian Branch.
Development is a core aspect of Elena's character. She transforms from a cold, manipulated killer who sees her own life as disposable into a passionate and emotionally open individual who can form genuine bonds. Her arc centers on breaking free from a manufactured past and choosing her own future, moving from a tool of the Russian Branch to a person capable of friendship, loyalty, and love.
Elena is a Shirogane, or White Iron, of A-rank, but her true power lies not in rank but in her unique Origin, the Magic Sword Leprazam. This demonic sword has the fearsome ability to devour the prana of Shirogane and the mana of Kuroma, making it incredibly effective against other Saviors. This power is what earned her the title Man-Eater and allowed her to injure the powerful S-rank Savior Sir Edward Lampard. However, Leprazam consumes her own prana as well, making it a double-edged sword that requires precise control. To compensate for this limitation when her Origin is active, Elena has honed her natural combat skills to a high degree, becoming extremely fast and agile in close-quarters combat, even able to wield ordinary knives infused with her prana effectively against powerful opponents.
