Reina Ueda
Description
Reina Ueda is a Japanese voice actress and singer born on January 17, 1994, in Toyama Prefecture. She is affiliated with the talent agency 81 Produce for her voice acting work and with the record label Lantis for her music career. Her journey into the profession began during her high school years. After being inspired by a classmate who aspired to be a voice actress, she applied for an audition just three days before the deadline. In 2011, this decision led to her winning the Special Award and Shogakukan Award at the 5th 81 Produce Audition, and she formally joined 81 Produce the following year.
Ueda's voice acting debut came in 2012 with a minor role in the anime series Inazuma Eleven GO: Chrono Stone. A notable early demonstration of her versatility was in the 2013 series Tesagure! Bukatsu-mono, where she voiced 18 different sister characters. Her first leading role arrived in 2014 as the protagonist Naru Sekiya in Hanayamata, a performance that significantly raised her profile. This early success was recognized in 2015 when she was one of the recipients of the Best New Actress Award at the 9th Seiyu Awards.
Since her debut, Ueda has built an extensive and diverse portfolio of roles across anime, film, and video games. Some of her most prominent and widely recognized anime roles include Kanao Tsuyuri in the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba series, Akane Shinjo in SSSS.Gridman, Miyo Saimori in My Happy Marriage, Reze in Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, and Chinatsu Kano in Blue Box. She has also taken on leading roles in magical girl and fantasy genres, such as Mayu Nekoyashiki / Cure Lillian in Wonderful Precure! and Miyako Hoshino in Wataten!: An Angel Flew Down to Me. Her filmography also includes significant supporting parts in long-running and popular series like Fruits Basket (as Kisa Soma), Dr. Stone (as Ruri), and Mashle: Magic and Muscles (as Lemon Irvine). Beyond anime, she is a prolific voice in video games, known for characters such as Ganyu in Genshin Impact, Sparkle in Honkai: Star Rail, Honami Mochizuki in Project Sekai: Colorful Stage!, and Veyle in Fire Emblem Engage.
In 2016, Ueda expanded her artistic endeavors by debuting as a solo singer under the Lantis label with the mini-album RefRain. She has since released additional singles and albums, with her music often tying into her anime work. For instance, her second single, Literature, served as the opening theme for the 2020 anime series Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina. Her contributions to the industry continued to be acknowledged with a second major honor in 2021, when she won the Best Supporting Actress Award at the 15th Seiyu Awards for her performance as Shuka Karino in Darwin's Game. Her performance as Miyo Saimori in My Happy Marriage also earned her the Best Voice Acting Performance (Female) at the 10th Anime Trending Awards in 2024.
