Description
Neneko Kurosawa is a black cat demi-human and a student in the Advanced Class at Shiranui High School. In the past, she lived as the house cat of a witch, an experience that left her with unique magical traits and an affinity for esoteric knowledge. She often carries a black grimoire and books on black magic, hinting at a deeper understanding of the arcane.
Her personality is defined by a quiet, reserved demeanor. She speaks very little, moves at her own pace, and exudes a mysterious, almost detached atmosphere that sets her apart from her classmates. Neneko is frequently seen napping during class, wearing an eye mask and using a book as a pillow, yet despite this sleepy behavior she is highly intelligent and consistently performs well academically. She displays a calm, emotionless expression and prefers solitude, embodying the independent and reserved traits common to cat demi-humans.
Unlike most of the other students in the demi-human program, Neneko does not wish to become human. The reason she would want to become a human is kept a secret, and she appears content to remain as she is. This motivation—or lack of it—sets her apart from her peers, who are all actively striving toward humanity. Her past as a witch’s familiar may inform her contentment with her current form, as she already possesses magical abilities that other demi-humans lack.
In the story, Neneko serves as a quiet but memorable presence in the class. Her role is less about active participation in the main conflicts and more about offering a contrasting perspective on the desire for humanity. Her key relationships are primarily with her teacher, Rei Hitoma, and her fellow students, though details of those bonds are not extensively documented. She interacts with them at her own pace, maintaining her enigmatic distance.
Notable abilities include her inherent magical traits from her time with the witch, as well as her proficiency with black magic, which she studies from her grimoire. Her sharp senses and agility, typical of cat demi-humans, are also implied. Development-wise, Neneko remains a largely static figure throughout the known narrative; her mystery is part of her character, and her reasons for not wanting to become human are never fully revealed, preserving her air of secrecy.
