Description
Raino Sumire is a supporting character in Rokudo's Bad Girls. She is the youngest of the Sumire triplets and the only girl among them, with Kazeno Sumire and Amano Sumire as her brothers. Within the delinquent organization known as the Onishima Alliance, the Sumire siblings collectively hold the position of executive rank number five, and Raino in particular is said to have committed crimes such as robbery, assault, and arson. In appearance, she is small in stature and usually presents herself with short, spiky blonde hair and sharp facial features.
A defining aspect of Raino is that she crossdresses. She takes on the appearance and mannerisms of a cool, handsome young man, and this masculine persona is convincing enough that most people assume she is a boy. She is highly skilled with makeup and disguise, to the point that she can make herself resemble her triplet brothers and can even disguise Tousuke Rokudou as a cute girl. Because the triplets look nearly identical, they are able to use such skills to impersonate one another seamlessly.
Personality wise, Raino carries herself with a cool and composed demeanor that suits her delinquent reputation. Her background as an Onishima executive points to a tough and hardened side, but the story also reveals a more sincere and emotionally open side. After encountering Rokudou, whose inherited ability causes delinquent girls to fall for him, Raino begins to act in a softer, more girlish manner around him. More importantly, she is genuinely moved by his sincerity, which leads her to abandon the Onishima Alliance and transfer to Harizō High School.
Within the larger story, Raino first appears among the Onishima Alliance executives when the organization's leader and his inner circle transfer into Rokudou's school in pursuit of their own goals. Her decision to defect over the course of that conflict turns her into an ally of Rokudou and his friends. Later, on White Day, she reappears when Harizō High is attacked by a new delinquent group called Chromosome, organized by a former boss of the school and the former Onishima member Yashiya Yui. Alongside Harizō's current boss and with help from Rokudou's group, Raino takes part in repelling the attackers, and the clash ends with Amori High and Harizō High forming an alliance.
Her relationship with Rokudou is central to her development. Although she initially comes under the influence of his ability, her feelings grow into genuine affection for his kind and honest nature. She gives him his first kiss and later confesses her love to him, but he gently rejects her. Despite this, she remains a loyal friend and ally. Over the course of the series, her growth is shown through her movement away from the violent delinquent world, her growing closeness to the people around her, and her willingness to fight alongside them for their shared goals.
In terms of abilities, Raino is a capable fighter, consistent with her standing as an Onishima executive, though the series places greater emphasis on her talents in makeup and impersonation. Her disguise skills, her ability to pass as her brothers, and her cool-headed presentation make her an effective operative, while her genuine loyalty and sincerity define her as the story progresses.
