TV-Series
Description
Kaoru is a central character in the story and a high school student attending Sabione Senior High School. Her family runs a cozy cat café, where she works as a clerk and waitress after school. Before the events of the series, she discovered a young man named Kunagi wandering the streets in a state of amnesia and took him in, becoming his employer at the family café.

Kaoru is known for her cheerful, energetic, and optimistic personality. She has a profound and passionate love for cats, spending most of her free time surrounded by them. Her warmth and approachable nature give her a gentle, healing aura that makes both customers and animals feel at ease. Beneath her friendly exterior, she possesses a strong sense of responsibility and justice. She is not afraid to deliver harsh words or stern warnings when she believes the situation calls for it, demonstrating a strength and reliability that one voice actor described as a "tsundere-like" quality. This tough exterior is rooted in genuine kindness and concern for others.

Her role in the story is defined by the "Nyandemic," a catastrophic event where a virus transmitted through contact with cats turns humans into felines. As a cat lover who can no longer safely interact with cats, Kaoru must navigate a world where her greatest passion is now a direct threat to her survival. Despite the danger, she is quick-witted and resilient. Alongside Kunagi and a group of other survivors, she works to defend herself against the hordes of cats that have overtaken the city, taking great care to avoid harming them.

Kaoru shares a close and supportive relationship with her older brother, the owner of the cat café, where they work together to create a welcoming environment. Her relationship with Kunagi is central to the story, as she is the person who found him and gave him a purpose. She acts as something of a supervisor or boss to him, monitoring his well-being and guiding his actions. Kaoru also has a significant friendship with her classmate Tsutsumi. Before Kaoru intervened, Tsutsumi was a target of bullying. Kaoru's assistance and kindness helped Tsutsumi emerge from her shell and find her brighter side.

In terms of development, Kaoru begins as a capable and responsible young woman whose love for cats defines her daily life. The onset of the Nyandemic forces her to adapt her instincts, balancing her natural affection for animals with the need to survive. She demonstrates grit and a clear sense of duty, as seen when she helps a collapsed Kunagi out of a feeling of responsibility. According to information from voice actors, guidance was given to portray her not as a seasoned warrior but as an ordinary girl initially confused and fleeing from danger. No notable superhuman or specialized combat abilities are described, with her primary strengths being her resilience, quick thinking, and deep, encyclopedic knowledge of cats which proves useful in the post-apocalyptic setting. There is no available information regarding her development later in the series or any unique abilities beyond these personal qualities.
