Movie
Description
Nene Iwamizawa is a third-year Liberal Arts student at Yokohama City University, two years senior to Sakuta Azusagawa. Originally from Hokkaido, she moved to Tokyo to pursue a career in modeling, having already found success as a model during her high school years. Within the story, she is also known by the alias Miniskirt Santa, a nickname that stems from a mysterious encounter in which she appeared before Sakuta dressed in a Santa Claus outfit. She has medium-length black hair and black eyes.
Nene is prideful and carries herself with a marked confidence, often appearing ambitious and driven to succeed. She is image-conscious and takes great pride in her achievements, yet this self-assurance masks a deeper anxiety about her future and the gap between the person she hoped to become and the reality of her career prospects. Her core motivation revolves around securing a stable and meaningful path after graduation, and she struggles with the pressures that come with that uncertainty. The author deliberately designed her character to explore themes of employment and identity among university students.
In the narrative, Nene first appears as a mysterious figure who helps Sakuta, with her true identity later uncovered through an archived university beauty pageant. She becomes a major supporting character during the college arc, and in Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend, she remains closely involved as the story confronts its final manifestations of Adolescence Syndrome. She maintains a direct, sometimes teasing dynamic with Sakuta, treating him as a junior she can advise or challenge. She is also part of a small circle of university friends, including Uzuki Hirokawa and Ikumi Akagi, and she interacts with them in a grounded, pragmatic manner.
Over the course of the series, Nene undergoes significant development. Her own Adolescence Syndrome, central to the Santa Claus arc, forces her to confront her fear of failing to live up to her idealized self-image. By the events of Dear Friend, she has grown more introspective and uses her personal experience to support others facing similar struggles. Her notable abilities include her skill as a model and her strong public presence, as well as a sharp, no-nonsense mind that makes her a reliable resource in difficult situations. She is not afraid to speak candidly and offers a perspective shaped by both her ambitions and her hard-won understanding of compromise.
