Description
Haruno Akiyama is a professional manga artist who resides in the candy shop run by her grandmother in Kofu, Yamanashi Prefecture. Originally from Ise in Mie Prefecture, she moved into the shop after a trip to Tokyo and eventually settled there, while her parents later relocated to Toyama.

In terms of appearance, Haruno has messy hair that resembles cat ears, distinctive thick eyebrows, and drooping eyes that give her a relaxed expression. She wears round glasses and is described by other characters as having an even more carefree-looking face than the similar-appearing Makinohara. She stands 165 centimeters tall with gray hair that reaches her waist and blue eyes.

Haruno's personality is characterized by a calm, kind, and remarkably easygoing nature. She tends to be somewhat lazy and procrastinates, as shown when she refuses to put away her kotatsu even after winter has ended. She suffers greatly from heat and strongly dislikes summer temperatures, preferring to stay in air-conditioned rooms set to around 18 degrees Celsius. She has little athletic ability and prefers indoor comfort over physical activity. Despite her laid-back demeanor, she is independent, curious, and always willing to help her friends. She enjoys drinking beer but has a low tolerance for alcohol, sometimes making unexpected friendships while intoxicated.

As a manga artist, Haruno works under the pen name Akino and publishes in Houboomsha's Manga Cannon magazine. Her first manga series focused on cats, titled Cat on the Road, was canceled after four volumes due to disappointing sales. She gained popularity and success with her new four-panel comedy manga called mono, which was inspired by the high school girls Satsuki Amamiya and An Kiriyama and their cinephoto club activities.

Haruno's role in the story begins with an unusual encounter with Satsuki and An. She had sold a camera to Satsuki through an online auction but forgot to send it because she was sick with the flu and busy meeting a deadline. When the two students traced the camera\'s origin and discovered Haruno lived nearby, they visited her in person. After meeting them, she decided to create a manga based on their school club experiences. She frequently accompanies the cinephoto club on their photography trips, using these outings as research opportunities to gather reference material and scout locations for her manga. In exchange, she provides transportation for the club members, though her driving skills were initially quite poor.

Regarding her key relationships, Haruno shares a close friendship with Kako Komada, a former classmate from high school whom she reunited with after years apart. Kako works as a motovlogger who uploads travel photos and videos, and the two often collaborate on creative projects and excursions. Haruno also maintains contact with Torayo Kurokuma, a popular manga artist who possesses spiritual abilities and helps Haruno deal with paranormal problems. Haruno has a deep affection for her family cat, Taisho, who appears frequently in her manga as an unofficial mascot.

Throughout the story, Haruno demonstrates notable development as she gains confidence in her abilities. Feeling insecure about her driving, she takes the initiative to re-enroll in driving school and improves her skills, motivated by her desire for readers to be interested in visiting the real locations she presents in her manga. She also enjoys building things herself, such as keyboards and chairs as needed for her work.

Among her quirks, Haruno has a strong tradition of eating curry at least once a month, a habit inherited from her father who established Saturdays as Curry Day during her childhood. If she goes too long without curry, she experiences intense cravings described as withdrawal symptoms. She seems to attract misfortune, frequently encountering closed restaurants, sold-out menus, or bad weather when trying to eat good curry, and she also has a tendency to experience ghost-related incidents. Her relaxed and independent nature has earned her nicknames such as stray cat who settled in without warning from those around her. On occasion, the story focuses solely on her adult life, positioning her as the protagonist among the older characters when Satsuki and An are not present.
