Description
Gray hails from the Blackmore Cemetery in Wales, where her clan sought to resurrect King Arthur by forging a vessel worthy of wielding the Holy Lance Rhongomyniad. Born with a faint likeness to the legendary monarch, her body abruptly shifted at age ten to mirror Artoria Pendragon’s visage, erasing her original features and plunging her into an identity crisis. Magdalena, her mother, and the villagers enforced strict regimens to mold her into Arthur’s vessel, while Morgan’s ritual—aided by the Corpse King—sought to cleave Gray’s mind and soul from her body, enabling Arthur’s spirit to claim it. The scheme hinged on seizing Artoria’s soul during the Fifth Holy Grail War via the blade Erosion, which would obliterate Gray’s existence entirely.

Trained in necromancy, spirit combat, and gravekeeping by Bersac Blackmore and Fernando Croze, Gray fled her village after Bersac staged her death with a lookalike corpse. She became Lord El-Melloi II’s apprentice at the Clock Tower, serving as his assistant to bypass enrollment fees without attaining full Mage’s Association status. Tormented by her Artoria-like face, she implored El-Melloi II to continue despising her appearance, a plea rooted in profound self-loathing.

Concealed beneath a hood per her mentor’s orders, Gray’s gray hair, green eyes, and Welsh accent hide a face indistinguishable from Saber’s. Activating Rhongomyniad transforms her eyes gold, deepening her Arthurian ties. Her companion Add—a sentient cube embodying the Holy Lance—shapeshifts into a scythe and offers counsel akin to Sir Kay’s brash demeanor. Post-Saber’s summoning, a blonde streak emerged in her hair, and her aging halted at fifteen, freezing her adolescent form for years.

Introverted and socially uneasy from isolation, Gray battles self-doubt yet displays fierce loyalty and courage, shielding others despite personal peril. A fear of ghosts reflects her dread of becoming a restless spirit should she succumb to despair. Bonds with El-Melloi II, Reines, and Svin Glascheit—who quietly admires her—nurture gradual self-acceptance. As an investigative chronicler, she documents cases with analytical precision, serving as the narrative’s grounded observer.

Later chronicles depict Gray confronting her dual identity while aiding El-Melloi II’s quest to reunite with Iskandar, their partnership strengthening through shared purpose. A cameo in *Fate/strange Fake* reveals her in her twenties, cloaked by a Mystic Code to obscure her unchanged features, though her involvement in that timeline remains enigmatic.
