Description
Dustin Morgan is the older brother of Billy Morgan and a high-ranking officer within the human military forces known as the New United Nations. Holding the rank of Major, Dustin serves as the platoon leader of the Argos Platoon, a specialized Fafner unit operating under the direct command of the New United Nations Headquarters. Prior to his role in the Argos Platoon, he was the captain of a Fafner unit stationed in Hawaii when it was attacked a year before the events of the series. His personal Fafner unit is the Tronz model Raphael.
As a military leader, Dustin Morgan is a pragmatic and hardened soldier, shaped by the brutal realities of a prolonged war against the alien Festum. His primary motivation is the completion of his mission, which often involves grim and morally complex tasks. The Argos Platoon is specifically deployed as an allied killer unit, meaning its duty is to eliminate fellow humans who have been partially assimilated by the enemy. This role forces Dustin to make cold, calculated decisions that prioritize the greater strategic good over individual lives.
In the story, Dustin represents a conflicting human force that stands against the protagonists from Tatsumiya Island. He is assigned to capture their powerful Fafner units, leading him into direct confrontation. His motivations are tested by his loyalty to his brother, Billy. Despite having been out of contact for some time, Dustin struggles to reconcile his professional duty with his personal desire to protect his sibling. During a mission to secure a target, Dustin resorts to murdering his own commander, Kamal Dexter, who opposed his methods. In a later operation, he faces Billy directly; he captures his brother but chooses to falsify reports to his superiors, claiming Billy was an operative in order to keep him safe from execution.
Throughout his arc, Dustin Morgan is portrayed as a capable and ruthless field commander who is willing to sacrifice anything to achieve his objectives, including his own humanity. His development centers on this internal conflict between his role as an instrument of war and his remaining familial bonds. While he adheres to a harsh philosophy of neutralizing threats, including those assimilated by the Festum, his actions regarding his brother reveal a persistent, if buried, desire to protect his family from the brutal system he serves. As a pilot and commander, Dustin is a skilled ace, having held leadership positions in multiple front-line units and piloting a powerful Fafner model in combat.
