Description
Mimika Mikagami is a third-generation pilot introduced in Soukyuu no Fafner Exodus. She lives on Tatsumiya Island with her mother, who works as a fisherwoman; her father is deceased. Her name was chosen by her mother to reflect the hope that she would be beautiful in face, body, and heart. She is a third-year middle school student at Tatsumiyajima Middle School and is a member of the athletics club, training under the supervision of Sakura. She is often called Mika Mika by those close to her.
Her personality is energetic, cheerful, and forward. She is described as extremely lively and unflinching, a trait she inherited from her mother. She loves physical activity and has a passion for reading manga, particularly the series Mobile Samurai Goubain. She idolizes Hiroto Douma, who embodies the spirit of Goubain, and she eventually inherits his Goubain helmet when he leaves the island.
Mimika was already a pilot candidate before the events of Exodus, but she is officially selected as a pilot when a new Fafner core becomes available. Her motivation is to protect her home and comrades, and she embraces the role of being the island's shield with a sense of duty and enthusiasm. She pilots the Fafner Mark Funf Kai, nicknamed Tsukuyomi, which is the fifteenth Nothung Model Fafner designed by Alvis. The mecha is modeled after the original Mark Funf and is equipped with Aegis equipment for both defense and offense.
Her key relationships include her admiration for Hiroto Douma, who passes down the Goubain helmet and legacy to her. She is also close to the other third-generation pilots, Reo Mikado and Sui Kaburagi, who are her classmates and fellow recruits. She respects and looks up to the older pilots, such as Kazuki Makabe and Sakura.
Throughout the story, Mimika develops from a spirited young fan of Goubain into a reliable defender of the island. Her notable ability in combat is her Super Dimensional Phenomenon (SDP), which she calls Wall. This ability allows her to generate a barrier similar to the two-dimensional walls used by the Festum, enabling her to block attacks and protect allies. However, the use of this ability carries a heavy cost: spherical black foreign objects resembling worm spheres appear on her body and gradually multiply with each use, eventually covering her entire body in a process of assimilation. She pushes herself to her limits while shielding the island, leading to complete assimilation, but she is ultimately saved and restored by Kazuki Makabe. Even after the typical retirement period for pilots, she continues to pilot the Fafner due to the shortage of trained successors, showing her enduring commitment to the island's defense.
