Description
N'Doul is a secondary antagonist from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders, appearing in the Battle in Egypt arc during the story arc titled The Fool Iggy and Geb N'Doul. He is a loyal assassin in service to DIO and one of the Egypt 9 Glory Gods, a group of elite Stand users named after Egyptian deities. N'Doul is blind and relies on a cane to navigate, but his other senses, particularly hearing, are exceptionally sharp. He has an athletic build, unkempt dark hair, and eyes that are nearly always shut due to his blindness. His attire consists of a simple T-shirt under a striped overshirt and a drape for protection against the sun.
In terms of personality, N'Doul is fiercely devoted to DIO, viewing him as a savior and a figure worthy of absolute loyalty. He is confident to the point of arrogance, referring to himself as the great N'Doul, and takes genuine pleasure in battle, often laughing when he gains the upper hand. Despite his ferocity, he maintains a cool and calculated demeanor. He adheres to a warrior's code of honor, which Jotaro Kujo later acknowledges, remarking that N'Doul might have joined the Joestar group's cause had they encountered him earlier and freed him from DIO's influence. This sense of honor is demonstrated after his defeat when he uses his own Stand to attack himself, ensuring that Joseph Joestar's Hermit Purple cannot extract DIO's secrets from his mind.
N'Doul's motivation is rooted in his devotion to DIO and his desire to eliminate the Joestar group as a threat. He operates with the belief that serving DIO is the highest purpose, and he shows no hesitation in carrying out his mission, even at the cost of his own life.
In the story, N'Doul's role is that of a formidable obstacle shortly after Iggy joins the Joestar party. He first appears by killing the two pilots of a helicopter carrying Iggy, then ambushes the group in the desert. His long-range attack with his Stand Geb severely wounds Noriaki Kakyoin, cutting his eyes and temporarily incapacitating him. This forces the Joestar group to adapt: Mohammed Avdol deduces that N'Doul tracks his targets by sound, and Jotaro realizes that only Iggy's Stand, The Fool, can reliably sense Geb's movements. With Jotaro's forceful coercion, Iggy reluctantly cooperates. The battle culminates when Jotaro hurls Iggy and The Fool directly at N'Doul, catching him off guard and allowing Jotaro to land a decisive blow. Defeated and knowing he will be killed by DIO for failure, N'Doul commits suicide by Geb to protect his master's secrets. In his final moments, he reveals to Jotaro that there are nine other Stand users in Egypt, including himself, and presents a token of respect. Jotaro buries his body, acknowledging his worth as a warrior.
Key relationships include his unwavering allegiance to DIO, who he regards as a messianic figure. Among the Joestar group, N'Doul fights primarily against Jotaro and Iggy, though his attack on Kakyoin leaves a lasting injury. His interactions with Iggy highlight N'Doul's tactical cunning and the reluctant partnership between Jotaro and the standoffish dog. There is no significant development or arc for N'Doul beyond his encounter, as he dies in the same battle. However, his death serves to underscore the seriousness of the threats in Egypt and introduces the concept of the Egypt 9 Glory Gods.
N'Doul's notable ability is his Stand, Geb, named after the Egyptian earth deity. Geb is a long-range Stand composed entirely of water that N'Doul can control remotely and shape into various forms, such as a high-pressure cutting stream capable of slicing through flesh. The Stand's effective range is approximately four kilometers, allowing N'Doul to attack from a safe distance. He combines Geb with his acute hearing—he can detect vibrations from footsteps or other sounds—to pinpoint his enemies' locations without seeing them. He also exploits the desert environment by hiding Geb under sand, creating quicksand, and using the water to propel sand into the air as a makeshift sonar. The creator Hirohiko Araki conceived Geb after hearing about a drowning incident involving a small amount of water, finding it ironic to have a drowning threat in a desert. While Geb's physical strength is moderate, its danger lies entirely in N'Doul's skill and creativity as a user.
