Kongo, also frequently romanized as Kongou, is the personification of the lead ship of the Kongo-class battleships. Her background is intrinsically linked to her historical counterpart: designed by British naval engineer George Thurston and constructed by Vickers in England, she was the last Japanese capital ship built outside the country. Originally a battlecruiser, she underwent major reconstructions to become a fast battleship. This British origin deeply informs her character. She is known for her love of drinking tea and frequently mixes English words and phrases into her Japanese dialogue, delivered with an energetic and distinctive accent.
