Description
Juzo Megure is a Police Inspector in Division 1 of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. He is a veteran officer who is frequently seen at crime scenes, where he acts as the commanding officer for the group of police detectives under his supervision, including Wataru Takagi, Miwako Sato, Ninzaburo Shiratori, and Kazunobu Chiba.

Megure stands as a figure of experience and authority in law enforcement. He is a capable and dedicated officer who has been on the police force for many years. Before leaving the force to open his own agency, Megure and Kogoro Mouri were co-officers in the same district. Megure also had a long-standing friendship with the famous mystery novelist Yusaku Kudo, frequently consulting him on difficult cases in the past, and would sometimes see a young Shinichi Kudo accompany his father to these consultations, where the boy learned his investigative skills.

Personality wise, Megure is known for being a caring and protective superior, showing particular concern for the well-being of his subordinates, often in a manner reminiscent of a father figure. Despite his competence, he can be somewhat conservative in his thinking, which can limit his flexibility as an investigator. He is also prone to occasional shouting fits when agitated or when things do not go according to plan, and he has little patience for foolishness.

Megure holds a high level of respect for Shinichi Kudo, having seen the young man's deductive abilities firsthand and having regularly consulted him on difficult cases after Shinichi solved their first mutual case. He often remarks that investigations would be easier if Shinichi were still present. In stark contrast, he has a low regard for the older Kogoro Mouri, whom he considers to be under a jinx, as murder cases seem to occur wherever he goes. His opinion of Kogoro has improved somewhat since the former detective began solving cases as the Sleeping Kogoro, though he remains impatient with him. Initially, Megure does not think highly of Conan Edogawa and the Detective Boys, usually seeing them as a nuisance until they provide a clue that helps solve the case.

One of the most defining aspects of his background is the reason he always wears a hat. Shortly after joining the police force, Megure was involved in a case that led him to meet his future wife, Midori. During the incident, Midori insisted on acting as a decoy to catch a serial killer who used his car to run down his victims. When the killer attempted to run her down, Megure pushed her out of the way and was struck by the car instead, sustaining a large scar on his head that he has since concealed with his hat. Midori survived, and the two later married; she also has a scar from the incident, which she hides with her hair. This personal history is something he is self-conscious about, providing a sentimental reason for his trademark accessory.

Beyond his standard police duties, Megure possesses a strong sense of justice and a notable tolerance for pain, having sustained serious injuries in the line of duty without significant reaction. However, he has some notable limitations. He is not proficient with modern technology, having difficulty using computers. He also struggles with the English language. While he is a competent leader who is always present for major cases, his own deductive powers are not as sharp as those of prodigies like Shinichi Kudo or Heiji Hattori.
