Description
Blitz T. Abrams, often called Lucky Abrams by his comrades, is a central figure in the secret society Libra and is widely recognized as the world's greatest vampire hunter. A tall older man with short black hair, a mustache, and a goatee, he typically dresses in a suit and tie under a brown overcoat. His reputation as the preeminent vampire hunter is so fearsome that he has killed countless members of the Blood Breed, the vampires of Hellsalem's Lot. This career has led to the entire species cursing him so many times that the curses have accumulated to a bizarre and extreme degree.

The nature of these curses gives Abrams his defining and paradoxical characteristic: his luck. The curses do not affect him directly but instead cancel each other out, manifesting as catastrophic misfortune that indiscriminately affects everything and everyone around him. Probability and luck operate in a highly unusual manner in his presence, always to his personal benefit but often to the severe detriment of allies and enemies alike. Examples of the mayhem that follows him include random and devastating automobile accidents, exploding airplanes, and even meteor showers that have destroyed powerful supernatural creatures. Despite the chaos he unintentionally causes, Abrams seems almost comically unaware of the connection between his presence and these strange disasters.

In terms of personality, Abrams presents a dual nature. Outwardly, he is often jovial and can come across as insensitive, a trait displayed when he chastised Leonardo Watch for damaging one of his eyes and casually suggested sacrificing an arm next time. He appears genuinely unaware of why people go out of their way to avoid him. However, when focused on a mission or the task at hand, he becomes decidedly more serious, cold, and calculating, showing no hesitation in using lethal force or intimidation, such as threatening to inject an adversary with a coagulant.

Blitz T. Abrams holds a significant role in the story as the mentor of Klaus Reinherz, the leader of Libra, and is considered the equivalent of a master or teacher to him. In a pilot chapter for the series, a figure resembling Abrams is shown offering a crucified and infected Klaus a chance to change his life, an act that likely saved him from becoming a full vampire. In the main narrative, he is a specialist called upon by Klaus for the most dire vampire-related threats. His arrival in Hellsalem's Lot to investigate a sighting of an Elder Blood Breed is heralded by a plane crash, and his subsequent encounter with Leonardo Watch and Zapp Renfro results in a massive road accident that injures Leo's eye. He later treats the injury with a custom-crafted eyepatch and uses Leo's unique vision to confirm the presence of vampires and read their secret names.

Despite being an ordinary human in terms of physical capabilities, his expertise is vast. He possesses extensive knowledge of the arcane, particularly regarding the curses used by the Elder Blood Breeds. He is a tactical expert who has achieved extraordinary results against supernatural foes through skill and his uniquely warped fortune. As a core member of Libra, he helps coordinate with multiple forces and participates directly in high-stakes operations, including breaking into a prison to recruit other individuals for a mission. His overall character is defined by the irony of being a supremely skilled and knowledgeable hunter whose greatest asset in the fight against vampires is a supernatural luck that spares him while endangering everyone else.
