Description
Ui Tamaki anchors a story of sacrifice, sisterhood, and the hidden costs of magic. Her life began shadowed by terminal illness, a condition her sister Iroha sought to cure by becoming a magical girl—a choice that inadvertently pulled Ui into a cycle of supernatural consequences. While hospitalized, she bonded deeply with fellow patients Touka Satomi and Nemu Hiiragi, forming a trio that would later challenge the magical girl system upon uncovering Iroha’s secret double life.

Ui’s wish to cleanse others’ suffering backfired catastrophically. Granted the power to absorb curses and despair, she nearly witched out instantly, forcing her consciousness into an altered Kyubey body while her original form fused with the embryonic witch Shitori Egumo. Encased in crystal and erased from collective memory save Iroha’s, she existed as a forgotten paradox—a girl both present and absent.

Her magic manifests through a swallow-shaped kite that draws in impurities for purification. The dormant statue form of her Doppel, Shitori Egumo, transmutes absorbed anguish into strength-enhancing gemstones yet remains defenseless in battle, embodying Ui’s self-sacrificial nature and vulnerability.

Rescued from crystalline entombment during the Walpurgisnacht crisis, Ui faced an existential void. Adrift without the clear goals that drove Touka and Nemu, she gradually carved her own path through Iroha’s support, embracing a future as a music teacher to foster unity and emotional resonance.

Her relationships chart her evolution: the unshakable tie to Iroha fuels the narrative’s heart, while her partnership with Touka and Nemu shifts from hospital confidantes to co-architects of systemic change. Guidance from mentors like Hazuki and Nanaka sharpened her grasp of duty and collaboration.

Subsequent stories probe Ui’s balance between trauma and normalcy. The Haregi festival showcases her burgeoning independence, while seaside-themed tales revisit a childhood pledge to visit the ocean with Touka and Nemu, framing resilience against physical constraints. Her eventual stabilization within the Doppel system and integration into Mikazuki Villa’s community signal a shift from narrative catalyst to self-determined individual, prioritizing personal healing and aspirations beyond magical burdens.
