Description
Kana Suzuki is a female student and a key character in A Good Librarian Like a Good Shepherd. She is a freshman at Shiomi Academy, where she later becomes an active member of the Library Club. Outside of school, she works part-time as a waitress at a establishment called Appillio.
In terms of appearance, Kana is a girl of short stature with a petite figure, standing 148 centimeters tall. She has long, wavy blonde hair that she often holds back with a white hairband, and blue eyes. Her physical smallness is a trait that she is somewhat self-conscious about, especially when comparing herself to other female characters.
Her personality is bright, cheerful, and polite, and she consistently works to create a lively and fun atmosphere wherever she is. Kana has a kind and warm-hearted nature, and her primary motivation for joining the Library Club was not just a love for reading, but a desire to participate in various activities and, more importantly, to make new friends. She enjoys writing and has a particular interest in crafting plays, with a goal of making people laugh and seeing them have a good time. One of her few dislikes is cats, to which she has a mild allergy.
The story explores Kana's personal history, revealing that she had a difficult friendship in the past. She once befriended a girl who was being picked on, but that friend abandoned Kana as soon as she was accepted by a more popular group. This past experience shaped her deep-seated desire to fit in and her tendency to try too hard. Upon joining the Shiomi Happy Project, which is the Library Club's volunteer initiative, Kana was eager and exerted considerable effort to make everything fun for everyone. Kyōtarō Kakei, a central figure in the club, noticed she was overexerting herself and kindly advised her that it was enough to simply be herself, as that was what truly mattered to the other members.
This advice was a turning point for her. Taking it to heart, Kana was able to let go of her performative efforts and act as her real self, which allowed her to genuinely integrate into the group. Following this, she developed a romantic crush on Kyōtarō Kakei, appreciating him for helping her find a place where she truly belonged.
Her key relationships within the club are well-defined. She becomes particularly close friends with fellow freshman Senri Misono. Due to them being the only first-year students in the group, Kana feels a sense of solidarity with Senri and believes they should look out for one another. Their friendship is noted for its playful dynamic, often likened to a comedy duo's banter. Other members of the Library Club affectionately refer to her by the nickname Kanasuke.
