Description
Mr. Ral appears in Gundam Build Fighters Try as the coach of the Gunpla Battle Club at Seiho Academy. He is a character who originally appeared in the first Gundam Build Fighters series and returns seven years later in this sequel to take on a mentorship role. He is a long-time enthusiast of Gundam and Gunpla, possessing extensive knowledge of both building techniques and battle strategies. His passion for the hobby is immense, and he approaches coaching with an energetic, hands-on style that pushes his students to improve.
Born out of a design that parodies the character Ramba Ral from the original Mobile Suit Gundam, this version of Mr. Ral carries a similar appearance and mannerism but exists in a peaceful world where Gunpla battle is a sport rather than a war. He has an optimistic and outgoing personality, often displaying humor and a sense of drama, especially when witnessing romantic developments among the people around him. At the same time, a hint of mystery surrounds him; he is well-connected within the Gunpla community and has acquaintances that extend into shadier circles, though he himself maintains a respectable reputation. Veteran fighters and knowledgeable fans recognize him by titles such as Lieutenant Ral or the Blue Giant, a testament to his skill.
His primary motivation in Gundam Build Fighters Try is to guide the newly formed team known as the Try Fighters toward victory in the All-Japan Gunpla Battle Championship for middle and high school students. He takes on the responsibility of training Sekai Kamiki, Fumina Hoshino, and Yuuma Kousaka, helping them develop their individual abilities and teamwork. He believes that Gunpla building and battling are hobbies to be enjoyed, not life-or-death struggles, and he instills this philosophy in his students.
In terms of relationships, Mr. Ral acts as a mentor and coach to all three members of the Try Fighters, offering tactical advice and encouragement. He has a long-standing friendship with Master Chinan of the Gunpla Shingyo School, and he previously showed romantic interest in Rinko Iori during the first series, though his personal life is not a central focus in the sequel. He is also on friendly terms with many other fighters and has earned the respect of opponents and allies alike.
Over the course of the story, Mr. Ral remains a steady presence, but he also experiences some development as he sees his students grow and succeed. His role shifts from being a background advisor in the original series to an active coach and father figure for the new generation. His personal Gunpla is the Gouf R35, replaced later by the Dom R35, both custom machines that reflect his combat style. He is a highly skilled battler with a remarkable record of only five losses in his career, the most recent of which was against Yuuma Kousaka's Lightning Gundam in a practice match. His battle approach focuses on guerrilla tactics, leveraging mobility and terrain to outmaneuver opponents.
