Description
Junya Inose is a character from the 2014 anime who plays the role of a rival and antagonist. He is a practitioner of the Jigen Haoh school of martial arts and a senior disciple who once trained alongside Sekai Kamiki under the same master. Affiliated with Tenzan Academy as a member of the team Titan representing Miyagi Prefecture, his skills are so formidable that even Gunpla Academy acknowledges his prowess.

In his past, Junya was a kind person who helped Sekai with his training. However, unlike Sekai, he never truly embraced the school’s philosophy; his interest lay solely in becoming stronger through the acquisition of advanced techniques. When his master refused to teach him what he believed were the ultimate secrets of their school, Junya left in pursuit of power elsewhere. This rejection caused his personality to change drastically. He became cold and ruthless, traveling to learn various other fighting styles including Aikido, Boxing, and the Chinese martial art Bajiquan. In his quest to test this collected strength, he took up Gunpla Battle, earning a reputation as a despicable fighter who cares only about destroying opponents.

Junya's role in the story is to serve as a dark mirror to Sekai Kamiki, representing what the protagonist could become if obsessed solely with power. His name is first mentioned by other characters who recognize Sekai’s techniques as being similar to his. Before the national tournament, Junya encounters Akira Suga, a former opponent who denounces him for being despicable and refuses to battle him again. Learning that Suga was defeated by a user of the Jigen Haoh style piques Junya’s interest in Sekai. He even resorts to underhanded tactics, such as hiring thugs to attack Yuuma Kousaka in an attempt to steal spare parts for the Build Burning Gundam, demonstrating his win-at-all-costs mentality.

Key relationships define his narrative. His primary connection is with Sekai Kamiki, whom he initially mentored but now views as a rival standing in his way. He shares a tense history with Akira Suga, who has seen firsthand the unpleasant side of Junya’s battling style and wants nothing more to do with him. The story also reveals a complex dynamic with his master, whom he resents for withholding secrets that, as is later revealed, never actually existed as physical techniques.

Junya’s development centers on his confrontation with Sekai during the national tournament quarterfinals. Piloting the Denial Gundam, a machine he customized for close combat, he demonstrates his superiority in the same martial art, easily copying Sekai’s original techniques and using his diverse martial arts knowledge to gain the upper hand. He can even channel a Plavsky particle projection similar to Sekai’s Phoenix, showing his mastery of the system. However, his obsession with technique leads him to merely copy and mimic fighting styles rather than make them his own, a flaw that contrasts with Sekai’s pure-hearted and earnest will. Though Junya manages to push Sekai to his limits, he is ultimately defeated when Sekai unleashes the full power of the Try Burning Gundam. After the match, Junya undergoes a change of heart; he congratulates Sekai and admits he is impressed by his former junior’s growth. Leaving the arena, he meets Akira Suga and decides to refocus his efforts on becoming stronger from the beginning, suggesting a return to his master to resume training and a move away from his purely antagonistic ways.

Notable abilities include his mastery of the Jigen Haoh school kenpo, which serves as his foundation. His knowledge of multiple real-world martial arts allows him to incorporate techniques like the Dempsey Roll into his Gunpla battles, making him unpredictable and highly versatile. He can also activate a Burning Burst mode with his Denial Gundam, similar to Sekai’s, to dramatically enhance performance. While Sekai relies on the emotional Assimilation phenomenon with his Gunpla, Junya remains in full control of his machine, piloting it like a precise weapon to execute his techniques.
